Zachary Priehs, reporter: libraries… a safe, quiet haven to read everything from the driest history to the most mind-bending fiction.
but the creative side of the petit public library doesn’t stop at the books.
William Hall, the artist behind petit library’s outlandish way art exhibit, makes unconventional art by heavily editing photographs he takes.
he takes a lot of photographs.
William Hall, Artist: “Work on about 400 pictures, and then I’ll narrow that down to maybe 180 that I’ll actually print.”
Zachary Priehs, reporter: he’s gained inspiration from his wife, the one who originally pushed him to start selling his artwork.
but it’s not just about the money for hall, its clear from the minute you meet him that he’s found his purpose.
William Hall, artist: “It’s like a miracle, it’s a miracle life, y’know. I mean like I make weird pictures and then I draw cartoons on ’em and…”
Zachary Priehs, reporter: For the longest time Hall didn’t even have a computer, and he says his editing journey actually began when he was painting over what he considered to be bad photographs, attempting to fix them.
Zachary Priehs, reporter: it’s safe to say hall has caught up just fine.
he says he’ll work away until midnight, editing, then undoing, then more edits.
hall doesn’t seem to have any plans of stopping, and why would he when hes got enough creative juices for all of us combined.
petit public library is already stocked with thousands of stories, but hall’s pictures speak thousands of words.
Zachary Priehs… n-c-c news.
SYRACUSE, N.Y. (NCC News) — Located on the East Side of Syracuse, the Petit Branch library is a storehouse for creativity. The great thing is, the creativity doesn’t stop after the last page.
William Hall is the creator of the Outlandish Way Art Exhibit, an art exhibit currently being held at the library until the end of November, and a yearly tradition since 2003.
Hall, who probably has more creative juices that the rest of us combined, has been creating outlandish art for quite some time. It all started when he was painting over poor photographs attempting to fix them. He said he’s found his passion, and wakes up every morning excited for the day.
“It’s like a miracle, it’s a miracle life, y’know. I mean like I make weird pictures and then I draw cartoons on ’em,” said Hall.
This passion has since budded into a full scale operation, with Hall who has graduated from paint to the Adobe Creative Cloud, creating about 180 works of art a year.
While many edit photographs, Hall takes it to another level, sometimes leaving the finished product looking nothing like the original.
He also creates a small cartoon and either writes or selects a quote to go along with each piece of artwork.
Hall isn’t showing any signs of slowing down, and why would he when he wakes up every day with a smile on his face.
