Cuomo Expands Excelsior Scholarships Program Excelsior Scholarship Program Expands

The Excelsior Scholarship is expected to help around 4,000 more students, Governor Andrew Cuomo announced Tuesday. This number is up 20-percent.

The program began in the fall of 2017 with the goal of helping students attend CUNY and SUNY colleges tuition free, according to ny.gov. It was the first program of its type in the nation.

This year, the maximum household income for eligibility is $125,000. It was $110,000 last year and $100,000 two years ago, Cuomo said.

Cuomo added that the program is off to a good start and that it leads to substantial savings for the families involved.
