Earth Day Becoming Earth Week Earth Day Events Last All Week

Earth Day was this Tuesday, but communities in Central New York are trying to spread awareness all week. Nearly every town in CNY has events planned this week to celebrate the Earth and generate excitement for the environment. In particular, SUNY ESF annually turns Earth Day into Earth Week, with a full slate of activities planned for students and area residents alike.

Science Communications Expert Ashley Feldspauch-Parker says that these activities are very important for helping people get involved in environmental issues. She also says that ESF’s activities are not just available for students, but for any area residents who would like to participate.

Finishing up the week’s  Earth Day festivities is Earth Fest 2019 Sunday in Thornton Park. Earth Fest is a national celebration and is one of the largest Earth Day events in the nation, Central New Yorkers can head to Thornden Park Sunday afternoon to enjoy speakers, food, art, and music.

Tomorrow’s Central New Yorkers can head over to the Suny ESF quad at 11:00 AM for Drive Electric Earth Day where electric vehicle owners will display their vehicles and highlight the benefits of electric cars. Suny ESF professor Ashley Feldpausch-Parker says it helps residents feel like they can make a difference.

“It makes you feel like you can do something. I think sometimes that’s the biggest barrier when we think about climate change. It just seems so large and monstrous of an issue and that can often be prohibitive to us acting. But if there’s things that we can do locally, if I feel like I can contribute in some small way, I can build off of that and I can learn more ways that I can become active”

And rounding out the week’s other Earth Day festivities is Earth Fest 2019 Sunday in Thornden Park. Be sure to check your local event calendars for events near you, Michael Furnari, NCC news.
