SYRACUSE, N.Y. (NCC News) — Only committed parents know what it means to never take a day off, especially ESPN production assistant Derwin Graham. Graham is the epitome of a Black man that takes care of his son with no excuses.
But the location of his job with ESPN has stretched him ways that he never saw coming.
“When I got the job offer I was excited but I was like, damn, I also have to be away from my son,” said Graham.
After taking a few days and speaking with his son, Derwin Graham III, emotions still took over because he had to figure out the best way to parent from a distance and set up a foundation for his son.
Luckily, ESPN is very flexible, specifically when it comes to remote work, which allowed him to still live his dream and work on the new 10-part documentary about the Chicago Bulls called “The Last Dance.”
After a slight notice of “The Last Dance” being pushed up before the summer time his remote access allotted him time to see his son.
The distance is tough for Derwin, but he won’t let it defeat him because his priority is to give his son as many opportunities in life that are possible.
