FAYETTEVILLE-MANLIUS, N.Y. (N.C.C NEWS) — After moving up to Class A, the Fayetteville-Manlius varsity boys lacrosse team finished its regular season with an 11-5 record. For the first time in two years, the Hornets received the No. 1 seed heading into the tournament.
Charlie Addonizio, boys lacrosse captain, said receiving the No. 1 seed was rewarding.
“So this year we have a lot of tough competition in Class A, so it just feels great to get the one seed,” said Addonizio.
Head Coach Doug Madden said the team puts in the work every day.
“The kids have really bought into what we are asking them to do,” said Madden. “So we are super pleased with their effort, their daily effort.”
The team had many close games this season, but Madden said they only had one bad loss. With the loss of many talented seniors the team did not have many veterans. Many players on the varsity team consist of freshman and sophomores.
Team Captain Kieran Egan said the team has a lot of depth.
“There’s no one number one guy that we all have to rely on. We all look to the left and right of each other and we know our boys have our back,” Egan said.
It was that mentality that allowed the Hornets to finish with an above .500 record.
This past weekend, No. 4 Baldwinsville upset Fayetteville-Manlius in the semifinals, ending their season. Madden says he is proud of the team’s hard work this season.
