FDA Warns Certain Eyedrops Could Carry Infections That Cause Vision Loss FDA Warns Certain Eyedrops Could Cause Vision Loss

Syracuse, N.Y. (NCC News) — The FDA warned Friday that some over-the-counter eyedrops have been found to cause infections that could lead to vision loss. The warning included 26 products that the FDA says should stop being used and purchased immediately.

The products are marketed under six different brands: CVS Health, Leader (Cardinal Health), Rugby (Cardinal Health), Rite Aid, Target Up&Up, and Velocity Pharma.

According to the report, the FDA recalled the products early last week after investigators found unsanitary conditions and positive bacteria tests in the manufacturing facilities. CVS, Rite Aid, and Target already began removing the products from their shelves and websites, while the other three brands continue to sell their products online.

The FDA has not received any reports of infections caused by these products, but urged health care professionals and patients to report if they are experiencing any signs or symptoms connected to eye infections. The link to report any potential infections is on the FDA’s website.
