Movie crew did not inform shop owners.

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (NCC News) — Orange and blue balloons moved in the wind blowing through Hanover Square. Two workers tried to move  a white horse with a lamp on his head onto  a platform. It looked like a bizarre party location.

American High, a Liverpool production company, is shooting a  movie called The Binge  in  Hanover Square beginning Thursday.

The company blocked off parking spots at the square.  Local shop owners said they were upset that they didn’t get notified, since it was an inconvenience for them and for their costumers. Still, local shop owners recognized the excitement and the meaning of the film shooting for the city.

“They probably should have said,  ‘Hey we are going to close the street for Monday and the days to come,'” said Edward C. Koolakian, owner of a menswear store nearby.  “If they close the street on Friday it will be a full work week.”

Stephanie Sampere, a stylist at Samson & Co.,  said the set looked great.

“We love the excitement, it is entertaining and it is a different scene from what we see everyday,”  she explained.

She and Koolakian said they not lose customers because of the film production.

“Our schedules are all pretty full, but we are booked with  appointments.,” Sampere added.  “We texted our clients that they should come a little early to  improvise parking.”

The area will be closed off completely during shooting.

“I think it’s good for downtown and for Syracuse that we are becoming known as an area where they shoot films,” Koolakian said. “It brings people and awareness to town”.
