Football’s National Rank Could Influence Prospective Students Syracuse Orange Football Team Earns National Ranking

The Orange have been ranked No. 22 in the preseason Coaches' Poll.

Kienan Dixon: Syracuse football is preparing to start the season as the number 22 team in the country. At the same time, high school students are preparing for their future college decisions. For some students, there is a direct correlation between the two. Justin Shapiro of Boston says the ranking betters the college experience.

Justin Shapiro: If you’re into athletics and want to go to games and have a team to root for that’s actually competitive in their sport, I think that’s pretty cool.

Dixon: Watkins Glen native Molly Dunham is a football fan, but will not base her decision on the success of teams.

Molly Dunham: I guess that’s cool. I don’t really care.

Dixon: The Orange are ranked in the preseason poll for the first time since 1998. Syracuse starts the season on August 31 at Liberty University. They will host the defending national champions, Clemson University, in the Carrier Dome on September 14. Kienan Dixon, NCC News.

By Kienan Dixon SYRACUSE, N.Y. (NCC NEWS)-Syracuse University’s football team checks in as the No. 22 team in the country, according to the preseason Coaches’ Poll.

For some prospective high school students, the national ranking for football could be something that they take into consideration when choosing a college.

“If you’re into athletics and want to go to games and have a team to root for that’s actually competitive in their sport, I think that’s pretty cool,” Justin Shapiro of Boston said while on a tour through Syracuse’s campus.

However, some students don’t find the ranking as influential in their decision.

“I guess that’s cool,”  Watkins Glen native Molly Dunham said.  “I don’t really care.”

The Orange are nationally ranked in the preseason Coaches’ Poll for the first time since 1998.

Head Coach Dino Babers is entering his fourth year at the helm and has his program coming off a 10-win season for the first time since 2001.

Syracuse opens the season on August 31 at Liberty University.  The Orange will host defending national champion Clemson University on September 14 as the home opener at the Carrier Dome.
