For the Salvation Army, New Technology Giveth and Taketh Away For the Salvation Army, New Technology Giveth and Taketh Away

ANC: The Salvation Army is going high tech this season. But N-C-C News reporter Jonah Karp says it may just be a case of too little, too late.

This year…if you want to donate to the Salvation Army, volunteer Anita Sims says you can do it right from your phone.

“Some people don’t carry cash. Apple pay really pans out.”

But bell-ringer James Jackson says, so far, it’s not actually panning out.

“I’ve seen maybe two people use it”

But it’s not just mobile payments. Salvation Army donations across the board are down.

“I think it’s because people are buying online. A lot of people don’t come to the mall anymore.”

Well, hey, maybe it’s the holiday cheer, but Jackson says the salvation army isn’t giving up.

“There’s still hope. You’re hopeful things are gonna change moving forward? Very hopeful. I have faith.”

The Salvation Army is now accepting mobile donations via Apple Pay and Google Pay. But more accessibility isn’t necessarily yielding more donations, as NCC News reporter Jonah Karp explains in this audio report.
