SYRACUSE, NY (NCC News) – Over the last few days, gas prices have increased throughout the entire east coast, including many Central New York stations.
Heavily attributed to “refinery problems,” the rise has seen several stations’ prices increase – some up to 20 cents per gallon.
One place experiencing rises in prices is the Syracuse Sunoco on North State Street. The station’s price for a full tank of regular gas is up to $2.45 per gallon, which is among some of the highest in the area.
The station’s assistant manager, Jay Rose, said he doesn’t believe increased gas prices will hurt business.
“It’s less busy right now, but I think that has to do with it being February, but come summertime, we’ll be super busy the whole time,” says Rose.
Rose said his gas station also benefits when people make purchases inside the store.
“To be honest, I haven’t really noticed much of a difference,” Rose said. “We’re a busy location, so no matter the price [of gas], they [people] are going to come in.”
The average price increase among Syracuse-area stations was from $2.31 to $2.43 – a 12-cent jump over the past week. Rose said he doesn’t believe the increase will last more than a few days.
“You would think [it’ll end soon],” he said. “I feel like this stuff always equals out eventually.”
