Gas Prices Rise Throughout CNY, Entire East Coast Gas Prices Rise Throughout CNY, Entire East Coast

SYRACUSE, NY (NCC News) – Over the last few days, gas prices have increased throughout the entire east coast, including many Central New York stations.

Heavily attributed to “refinery problems,” the rise has seen several stations’ prices increase – some up to 20 cents per gallon.

One place experiencing rises in prices is the Syracuse Sunoco on North State Street. The station’s price for a full tank of regular gas is up to $2.45 per gallon, which is among some of the highest in the area.

The station’s assistant manager, Jay Rose, said he doesn’t believe increased gas prices will hurt business.

“It’s less busy right now, but I think that has to do with it being February, but come summertime, we’ll be super busy the whole time,” says Rose.

Rose said his gas station also benefits when people make purchases inside the store.

“To be honest, I haven’t really noticed much of a difference,” Rose said. “We’re a busy location, so no matter the price [of gas], they [people] are going to come in.”

The average price increase among Syracuse-area stations was from $2.31 to $2.43 – a 12-cent jump over the past week. Rose said he doesn’t believe the increase will last more than a few days.

“You would think [it’ll end soon],” he said. “I feel like this stuff always equals out eventually.”

Singer:GAS PRICES AT MANY SYRACUSE-AREA STATIONS HAVE RECENTLY JUMPED AS HIGH AS 20 CENTS TO THE GALLON. PLACES LIKE SUNOCO, ON NORTH STATE STREET, HAVE EXPERIENCED SHORTER LINES FOR GAS… BUT ASSISTANT MANAGER JAY ROSE DOES NOT BLAME THAT ON THE INCREASE OF PRICES.

Rose: It’s less busy right now, but I think that has to do with it being February, but come summertime, we’ll be super busy the whole time.

Singer: AS OPPOSED TO GETTING GAS, ROSE ALSO BELIEVES THE RAISED PRICES HAS NOT EFFECTED THE SALES OF GOODS BY THE STATION’S MARKET.

Rose: To be honest, I haven’t really noticed much of a difference. We’re a busy location, so no matter the price [of gas], they [people] are going to come in.

Singer: DESPITE THE RECENT RISE IN PRICES, HOWEVER, ROSE EXPECTS THINGS TO EVENTUALLY RETURN TO NORMAL. FOR NOW, A GALLON AT SUNOCO IS PRICED AT TWO DOLLARS AND 45 CENTS. FOR N-C-C NEWS, I’M HARRISON SINGER.
