#GivingTuesday donations to nonprofits will help the students in the community.

ANCHOR: Giving Tuesday is a day where people across the nation give donations to different charities and organizations after a long weekend of shopping, NCC’s Alazia Williams is in Syracuse to find out how the donations to local nonprofits will help the students in the community.

REPORTER: Students from Onondaga County go to On Point for College for anything from help with financial aid to basic needs and supplies while in college and after college. A student at On Point says, it’s more than just a nonprofit. It’s an organization she can depend on.

Iasiah Jones: It’s like every big decision I make in life every career move, every anything. I come to them first.

Reporter: Iasiah Jones has been with On Point since her junior year in high school and is now an alumni of the program. On Point helped make her journey a lot smoother.

Iasiah Jones: I came right directly to On Point for the FAFSA for Tap, for my college applications, any essays I’ve written they read over them and help me submit them.

Reporter: On point helps students get the resources to survive and succeed after the program. The profits from the Giving Tuesday event will help continue to sponsor the organization and their students.

REPORTER: On Point for college already has 3000 students enrolled in college now, the donations from Giving Tuesday will give On Point the opportunity to buy more supplies like back packs, pencils, towels and of course comforters for the students that are going back to school.

REPORTER: On Point has an alumni base of over 23-hundred former students. The Director of Development, Andrea Marshall says the donations can help build for the future.

Andrea Marshall: We’re looking for individuals to help us send the next 23-hundred students to college.

REPORTER: Giving Tuesday is social media and donations are accepted through the On Point website. Marshall says On Point is always looking for people to help.

Andrea Marshall: We always look for opportunities to engage our alumni, our donors and our friends to give back to On Point.

REPORTER: On Point for College invests 88 percent of the funds raised for the organization go back into the students in the program. In Syracuse, I’m Alazia Williams for NCC News.

ANCHOR: Giving Tuesday is a yearly event that is celebrated around the world the Tuesday after Thanksgiving to help bring in the season of giving.

#GivingTuesday is a worldwide day of giving. Driven by social media and the organizations, it’s celebrated on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving. Giving Tuesday is a day where people across the world give donations to different charities and organizations after a long weekend of shopping.

On Point for College is one of the nonprofits participating in Giving Tuesday in Syracuse.  On Point helps low-income students to continue their education after high school.  Beginning with assisting in applications to financial aid and also supporting the students through graduation and beyond.

According to the On Point website majority of On Point for College students are first-generation college students and low-income students whose families believe college is financially impossible.
