The American Heart Association's Annual Go Red For Women Luncheon

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (NCC News) — The American Heart Association hosted its 16th annual Go Red for Women luncheon this morning. The luncheon is organized as a celebration for their year long effort to inform women on the risk of cardiovascular disease.

The Association’s Communications Director Kristy Smorol says the annual event helps women realize how many lives are affected by heart disease.

Unfortunately, too often, women can brush aside their symptoms, or it might not be something that they realize is such a concern for them, but heart disease kills one in three women.”

Smorol went on to add that the brunch was meant to fix this issue of public ignorance towards heart disease.

“Not everyone realizes that heart disease is the number one killer of women, so an event like this brings attention to the disease. Also we raise money that goes towards education and advocacy and research to help save women’s lives.”

Keynote speakers and members of the association spoke to an audience full of red that filled the Oncenter Nicholas J. Pirro Convention Center for the event.
