You won’t find any at this tee box, on this fairway or on this practice putting green this morning. In fact, you won’t even find any golfers driving, chipping or putting here at Drumlins. Head Golf Professional at Drumlins Sean Dadey says that’s because of the weather.
“Today with the weather, they probably won’t play, or they’re gonna, like I said, they might put it off until around noon. If the temperatures were a little warmer, on the public side we might see a little play. But we probably won’t see any play on the public side until, I would say, late afternoon.”
VO2: Temperatures only reached the 40s today and there were some early flurries as well. That combination may have some golfers dreaming about playing somewhere warm on the coast. But staying out of the sand of course.
Now even though there may not be a lot of golfing going on today, that has not been par for this course so far this season.
Dadey says April first is the ideal day for Drumlins to open up for the season. This year, he says the recent warmer weather has given them a steady start. This is an improvement from last year.
“The past couple years, last year especially, was a really slow start. April was really cold. We probably didn’t start functioning at a normal basis until the end of the month, which is probably three weeks later than ideal for us.”
While April may slice or hook one way in terms of the amount of golfers, Dadey knows business is consistent from the first of May to Labor Day. Santino Primerano, N-C-C News.
If you went to Drumlins this morning, you would have noticed that no one was playing any golf. Sean Dadey, the Head Golf Professional at Drumlins, said this is because of the weather.
“If the temperatures were a little warmer, on the public side we might see a little play,” Dadey said. “But we probably won’t see any play on the public side until, I would say, late afternoon.”
Those who may have planned on going golfing this morning were met by some unfortunate weather. There were flurries earlier Wednesday morning and chilly temperatures.
However, Dadey said that the beginning of golf season has been steady at Drumlins. The warmer weather earlier this week helped.
Drumlins likes to open on April 1 for golf season. This is a couple weeks earlier than the middle of April, which is a more common time to open, Dadey said.
Having an earlier start time is something that Drumlins has not experienced in a couple years, Dadey said.
“The past couple years, last year especially, was a really slow start,” he said. “April was really cold.”
While there has been some inconsistency in early on the past few years, Dadey said that business is consistent from May until Labor Day.
