HOCHUL:
“It is the honor of a lifetime becoming the first woman to lead this state.”

PERIK:
A historic moment in New York State politics.

HOCHUL:
“But I’m not here to make history; I’m here to make a difference.”

PERIK
Heading into the night, many Democrats here at Hochul’s own watch party thought the race would come down to the wire, with recent polls showing Hochul’s leadshrinking. But just before midnight… with 50 percent of the votes in — early jubilation.

(Unidentified voice)
“Please welcome the 57th governor of the state of new york, Kathy Hochul.”

PERIK:
And Hochul wasn’t the only one celebrating.

SCHUMER:
“Onward to victory Democrats.”

PERIK
Shortly after U-S Senator Chuck Schumer’sprediction, another projected winner walked onto the stage.

JAMES:
“My name is Letitia James and I will serve as your attorney general for the next 4 years.”

PERIK:
But the loudest roars were reserved for Kathy Hochul, the Syracuse University alum at the top of the ticket.

HOCHUL:
“And may God Bless all of you in the great state of new york. And the United States of America, thank you New York I love you.”

PERIK:
