SYRACUSE, N.Y. (NCC News) – Starting from March 1, 51 restaurants and food shops are offering special deals on dinners, lunch and more throughout downtown. This is all a part of Syracuse Downtown Dining Week.
At 203 East Water Street, where the Sweet Praxis is located, customers can get one savory, salad and a sweet for just $12 on lunch time’s special menu. Opening up almost ten years ago, the Sweet Praxis is not a new addition to downtown. What they mainly serve are breakfast and lunch foods and some menu options are vegan and gluten free.
Used to be architects, Jennifer Walls and her partner Natlie made desserts only in their spare time and finally decided to open a bakery full-time. According to Walls, dining week is a good time to promote local business, especially for those who hear them for the first time.
“It’s an opportunity for downtown businesses to highlight things on their menus and allow a little momentum for people to come downtown in the future month,” Walls said.
For customer Susan Kennedy, visiting a bakery has been a regular base.
“People just make a point to come to your favorite restaurant,” Kennedy said. “And of course I love the Sweet Praxis so I’m here today and doing some paperwork so I was thrilled.”
And she hopes to try more restaurants in the rest of the Dining Week.
“During this time we usually go to our regular restaurants and probably try new ones,” she said. “ Yes, we may go to other places downtown and enjoy new food.”
Participating restaurants are listed on the Downtown Committee site. Menus has been posted on that site as they became available.
