SYRACUSE, N.Y. (NCC News) – In a corner of Syracuse, one business has redefined “family owned.”

Guilfoil’s Irish Pub, located at 501 Burnet Ave., Syracuse, is standing as a local staple for nearly 80 years.

Established on Aug. 10, 1944, Guilfoil’s maintains its appeal across generations.

Current owner Kevin Schulz bought the pub in 2018 after many years of bartending from the previous owner, Michael Guilfoil III.

Schulz saw huge potential in the pub making renovations slowly.

He ensures new customers feel at home while maintaining the family-oriented and welcoming atmosphere that regulars love.

Schulz says, “The Guilfoil’s weren’t just my family but the customers of that place I’d considered a family.”

Vintage posters and newspaper ads hang on the walls for customers to admire while enjoying food and drinks, keeping Syracuse’s history present.

Schulz hopes to see Guilfoil’s celebrate its 100th birthday and eventually pass it down to his future children or someone who will preserve the Guilfoil name and atmosphere.
