APARTMENT COMPLEXES IN THE SYRACUSE AREA ARE READY FOR INCREASED CAPACITY.

N-C-C-‘S MATHIAS ALTMAN-KUROSAKI SPOKE WITH A LEASING MANAGER ABOUT HER EXPERIENCES IN THE PAST YEAR AND HER EXPECTATIONS.

MANY BUILDINGS NEAR THE S-U CAMPUS ARE RUN BY AMERICAN CAMPUS COMMUNITIES.

RHIANNON TALBERT HAS WORKED FOR THE COMPLEXES BOTH BEFORE AND AFTER THE PANDEMIC.

SHE WAS DEEMED AN ESSENTIAL WORKER, WHICH FORCED HER TO STAY WORKING DURING THE PEAK OF THE MADNESS.

“It was kind of scary when it was really bad, you know, because no matter how you’re feeling about it, you’re interacting hundreds of people a day.”

WHILE SCHOOL IS EXPECTED BACK IN PERSON, TALBERT SAYS BUILDINGS ARE PREPARED IN CASE RESIDENTS HAVE TO TURN TO REMOTE LEARNING.

“We can accommodate remote learning, that is something that is feasible, so I think there are going to be more students who are able to do that.”

TALBERT SAYS MANY APARTMENT UNITS ARE ALREADY FILLING UP.

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (NCC News) –– With Syracuse University getting ready for its fall semester, surrounding apartment complexes are gearing up for a higher number of residents. Many buildings already are seeing their units fill up.

Much of these buildings are run by American Campus Communities. Rhiannon Talbert has worked for multiple ACC complexes in the past year. She experienced working there before and after the pandemic. Since she was deemed an essential worker, Talbert had to work during the peak of the Covid madness.

“It was kind of scary when it was really bad, you know, because no matter how you’re feeling about it, you’re interacting hundreds of people a day,” Talbert said.

Talbert added that while school is expected to be back in-person this semester, her complex is ready for a potential return to remote learning. Over the past year, she said the buildings have been accommodating and more residents adjusted to learning online.

“We can accommodate remote learning, that is something that is feasible, so I think there are going to be more students who are able to do that,” Talbert said.

More units at complexes are filling up and capacity is expected to be nearly full.
