Nearly three months since the coronavirus pandemic hit hard, one local business owner sheds some light on the experience. Monique Andrews says she did not expect to close the salon doors for three months and is grateful for the financial help that came.

Andrews’ business is a neighborhood staple with more than 32 years of experience. With the new rules and regulations businesses alike are adapting to, Andrews says she is not sure how clients will react and is hopeful.

Andrews and her staff took proper protocol in the interim and completed a Covid-19 certification training. Andrews says she wants all clients to understand the importance of it all and not a matter of returning to routine.

JERSEY CITY, N.J. (NCC News) — While some Central New York businesses are now open under Phase 2 of the state contingency plan, its sister state of New Jersey is set to reopen in the coming weeks.

One local salon in the Garden State area is preparing for the new normal.

Owner Monique Andrews of “Monique’s Techniques” sheds some light of the experience almost three months since COVID-19 touched down.

Andrews says she did not expect to close the salon doors for an extended time and is grateful for the financial help that followed.

“By doing proper paperwork, paying taxes and doing things the right way, I was able to get unemployment and my staff was able to get unemployment,” said Andrews.

Andrews’ business is a neighborhood favorite that’s been in operation for more than 32 years.

With new rules and regulations all businesses are adapting to, Andrews says she is not sure how clients will react to the change, but is hopeful.

“We have to be limited, one per person; you can’t have people waiting,” said Andrews. “I usually do maybe, 30, 40 people a week, now it’s just probably gonna be cut in half.”

Andrews and her staff took proper protocol in the interim and completed a COVID-19 certification training.

Andrews says she wants all clients to understand the importance of it all and not a matter of returning to routine.

“I had to shut down my online booking, because we have to structure the appointments,” said Andrews. “I hired a cleaning service, so they’ll be coming every week and then we’ll come behind to do the sanitation part of it.”

Andrews says she is grateful for the amazing team alongside her and is blessed that they are still on board for the salons reopening on June 22.
