Zachary Priehs, Reporter: Mulroy hall of Ononda County Community College saw a trickle of voters coming and going this morning, casting ballots.

the turnout was steady, but slow, which should come as no surprise, as off year elections draw far fewer voters than their presidential counterparts.

Onondaga County resident Joe Greco told us why voting in every election is so important.

Joe Greco, voter: “And I think everybody should vote regardless of what the issues are or whose running”

Zachary Priehs, Reporter: GREKO, WHO HAS VOTED EVERY YEAR FOR THE PAST 30 YEARS SEES VOTING AS MORE THAN SIMPLY AN OPPORTUNITY…

Joe Greco, voter: “I think it is, yea, I think it’s a responsibility and an obligation that everybody should vote”

Zachary Priehs, reporter: ANOTHER RESIDENT TOLD US THESE ELECTIONS ARE A LITTLE BIT MORE PERSONAL FOR HIM

Jerry Moriarity, voter: “It’s more personal for us”

Zachary Priehs, reporter: TURNOUTS MIGHT NOT BE GREAT, BUT IT’S CLEAR PEOPLE LIKE JOE AND JERRY WOULD LIKE THAT TO CHANGE.

REPORTING FROM MULROY HALL IN ONONDAGA COUNTY

SYRACUSE, New York (NCC News) — Presidential elections rile us up, stir our emotions and generally cause a great deal of chaos and hubbub.

Not so with midterm and off-year elections. According to FairVote.org, only 50% of Americans were voting in midterm elections in 2018. Keep in mind, this year is an off year election, meaning the numbers may be even lower.

With judicial as well as other elections happening across the country today, we were curious what Onondaga county residents think about the importance of voting every single year.

To find out, we talked to voters at Mulroy Hall on the campus of Onondaga Community college, one of many polling stations here in Onondaga county.

We spoke with Joe Greco and Jerry Moriarity, both residents of Onondaga county.

Greco told us he’s been voting every single year for 30 years. He believes voting is something ALL Americans need to do.

“I think it’s a responsibility and an obligation that everybody should vote” said Greco.

Moriarity said that these smaller non-presidential elections are more personal.

Both these men shared the same sentiment, that if you don’t vote consistently, you shouldn’t complain about the condition of politics in our country.

Although turnouts for off-year elections may not be great at the moment, people like Joe and Jerry are sure not to let their voices go unheard.
