SYRACUSE, N.Y. (NCC News) – In the David and Goliath battle between app Lomotif and TikTok, Lomotif has made strides. According to techniasia.com, the app’s downloads are up 400% in the last three years.

Ted Farnsworth said he bought out Lomotif  because he believed it can rival TikTok. He also said the app fitted in with media and entertainment these days.

Farnsworth said entertainment is geared towards user-generated content, such as Instagram and TikTok. People create their own entertainment through short videos on social media with music, dancing, and so on. Farnsworth saw Lomotif as a big deal when he bought it out.

“I saw all along that was really the crown jewel of everything we would do,” he said.

Farnsworth said Lomotif fitted in because of the number of editing tools the app has similar to TikTok.  Examples of features  that are coming to Lomotif are live filters and live emojis. Farnsworth said these live filters can give users the ability to dance on the app similar to Michael Jackson. The live emojis will have animations such as crying. Farnsworth believed they  make the app even better.

Another reason Farnsworth said he bought Lomotif was because livestreaming has become more popular throughout the years. Lomotif has the capability to livestream events.

As an example, the Dandelion Music Festival in Syracuse was streamed on Lomotif on Oct. 2.

Another aspect of Lomotif is the app can teach creators how to edit and create videos for money. Farnsworth said Lomotif will be geared towards the creators.

“A lot of its going to be geared towards the creators, how to teach the creators how to monetize themselves, you know, how to make money on their own wherever they are in the world,” he said.
