More traffic with shareable city bikes will create a bigger chance of an accident. Poland suggest people always take a second look.

As for the cyclist themselves Poland says you need more to be safe then just hopping on the bike.

Even though it is so easy to hop on a GOTCHA bike the city wants to make sure that to be safe you do these extra steps.Michelle Knezovic…, N-C-C News

By Michelle Knezovic SYRACUSE, N.Y. (NCC News)-  The Onondaga County Traffic Safety Advisory Board hosted a traffic safety event on Wednesday. The event was held from 12 pm  to 3 pm at Destiny USA mall.

The event was open to everyone to help educate them on traffic safety with different tables that all offered different services.

Some of the tables were for carseat safety, wearing your helmet, driving lessons, and even just meeting police offers in your community.

Heather Poland, Traffic Safety Program Coordinator, said that it is not only the drivers you have to worry about on the roads.

“They don’t tend to focus on the pedestrians or the bicyclist or the people riding the motorcycles,” she said. “You know they’re more concerned with other vehicles.”

Poland said that especially with the new city “gotcha” bikes people need to make sure to wear helmets and reflective gear when they get on a bike.”

The county holds different events throughout the year to educate people and remind them to be safe on the road especially during the upcoming winter months.
