SYRACUSE, N.Y. (NCC NEWS) — Jazz in the City debuts its free public health concert series in partnership with CNY Jazz Central and Syracuse Community Health. During the shows, attendees can enjoy live music while getting their health taken care of.
While there is live jazz music and food vendors, free health consultations and screenings are provided for those who otherwise don’t have access. The event also addresses the challenges of information, family health services, and education.
“This was a lifeline for people,” Syracuse Mayor Ben Walsh said. “We brought music, we brought resources to the people at time when they needed it. It was one of those hard lessons we learned during the pandemic, that’s something we should be doing regardless of when we’re in a pandemic. ”
Steve Becker, the Jazz in the City organizer, said it is important that this series takes place for the community to come together in enjoyment and health.
“The music that attracts people to come, and they see their neighbors sitting down, getting blood pressure and such,” Becker said. “It’s very, very important.”
The series is expected to be on Thursdays from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at local central New York parks.
