SYRACUSE, N.Y. (NCC News) –The JMA Wireless Dome is undergoing a full transformation. On Tuesday, the state of New York invested $3 million into the project. After hosting various events catering to Central New Yorkers for the past few decades, attendees look forward to the upgraded experience.
Ticketholders like Dan Keegus say they are excited about the new upgrades, as the dome was not up to par in previous years.
“It’s always been a mixed experience. For a while, it was the Carrier Dome and it didn’t have air conditioning. That was the biggest drawback for a lot of people coming to games,” Keegus said.
According to JMADome2024.com, the transformation aims to address these issues by ensuring renovations are modernized.
Attendees are concerned about the seating, noting how uncomfortable the previous silver benches were.
“I’ve been a die-hard fan my whole life but I think mainly the thing that drew me away from the dome was the seating cause you couldn’t always get great seating,” said Keegus.
The JMA Wireless Dome is getting new blue seats, which began earlier this month. The new seating arrangement will adjust the capacity and rearrange the seating map. The school is expecting the updated capacity to be about 42,000. Syracuse.com noted that the updated seats will not have cupholders to comply with building codes.
“We’re seeing new construction and that’s going to be a big deal and we’re going to see a lot more people in the seats,” Keegus said.
The dome will reopen at the end of August. Ticketholders can see upcoming events and seating arrangements online at cuse.com.
