PROSPECT, Conn. (NCC News) — The coronavirus has affected businesses across the globe. Some businesses, such as LaBonne’s Supermarket in Prospect, are thriving during the pandemic.
LaBonne’s has several new additions to the store because of the pandemic. First, LaBonne’s is offering a delivery service for their customers. In addition, they are also allowing customers to come to the store to pickup their groceries via curbside. The CEO of LaBonne’s, Bob LaBonne, just purchased a minivan to deliver groceries to the store’s customers.
Another addition that LaBonne’s has is the way the cashiers are handling money. Customers have to stand 6 feet away when they are waiting in line. The six feet marker is marked with a red “x” on the floor. In addition to that, there are plastic shields placed in front of the cash registers to prevent the spread of the virus.
Many of the workers at LaBonne’s have been wearing gloves as they restock the shelves. LaBonne’s has been able to buy supplies from nearby restaurants that are not using as many supplies due to the pandemic. For example, most of the water from LaBonne’s has been bought from nearby restaurants.
With some new changes to the store, employees are getting more hours. Fortunately, LaBonne’s has not had to lay off any employers during the pandemic, which a lot of businesses have had to do. The morale of the employees, however, seems to be high since they are being compensated for their extra hours.
LaBonne’s will continue to do their online service once the pandemic dies down. Fortunately for LaBonne’s, they are not suffering from the empty shelves that most grocery stores are suffering from.
