With people all over the country getting ready for the 2024 presidential election, Syracuse University law school students are concerned about the role politics plays in the legal profession. Military law student Sarah Smith is in the Navy, her focus is on national security and national terrorism. Smith says, “There is a lot of changes that need to be happening on the main campus. I think there is a lot of polarizing opinions that are going astray, and students have been feeling the effects of the current political situation.”
Sarah also shares concern about the candidates’ take on important legal issues and how they can impact her career. “We are not getting to the real politics the behind the election. We’re just getting bias; we’re just getting a lot of what rhetoric looks like and in our modern society, and we’re not getting to the core values that are going to affect us daily.” Sarah’s enthusiasm shows the political stance that young voters are aware of when voting for the leadership of this country.
With a commitment to the selection of the next leader for this country, young voters play a pivotal role in shaping this country. As the choice of the right candidate for everyone may vary, Sarah’s perspective highlights the significance of young voter’s voices and opinions.
