Winter has arrived in Syracuse. The air is chilly, snow is on the ground and the annual holiday attraction Lights on the Lake is ready to open to visitors again.

The two-mile stretch of road at Onondaga Lake Park in Liverpool is transformed into a winter wonderland, surrounded by Christmas lights and displays. The show brings visitors from all over Central New York, including Rachel Cooper of Fayetteville, who loves the nostalgic feeling she gets from going.

“When I was a little kid we used to do stuff like that all the time. There was something similar-ish in Rochester,” she said.

Cooper has only visited Lights on the Lake once before, but it’s right up her alley.

“I love Christmas. Like, little kid, five-years-old love Christmas,” she said.

Lights on the Lake opens to drivers this Thursday. But first, last night’s pedestrian stroll kicked off the festivities, followed by tonight’s dog walking night, which Cooper plans to attend.

“We didn’t take our dog last year, last year we drove through it, but I’m excited to do the dog walk,” she said.

Lights on the Lake runs from November 14 to January 6 of next year, and is open from 5-10 P.M.
