Liverpool Community Embraces Outdoor Concert Series Liverpool Community Embraces Outdoor Concert Series

Bailee: In the heart of Liverpool, the pulse blares from Johnson Park in the summertime. Bands of all different genres bring in audiences of all different generations to enjoy a night of music.

The concerts are free — something that Liverpool is the Place chairwoman Gwen McCarroll is very proud of.

McCarroll: “All of our bands are hired by pure sponsorship. So we pay them. We all volunteer our time and go out and get sponsors. So this is not funded by anybody.”

Bailee: Liverpool is the place is a subcommittee of the greater Liverpool Chamber of Commerce. Their mission is to bring culture to the village that appeals to all ages.

This includes artists like Yolanda Bush and the Coolwater COLLECTIVE WHO MADE THEIR FIRST EVER APPEARANCE AT JOHNSON PARK TO KICK OFF THE MONTH OF JUNE.

Bush: “I really like it. I like the venue. It’s easy, you know, easy load in easy load out. And more than that, the people. The people are really wonderful. They really enjoyed the music and they were into it you know?”

Bailee: The village has supported the concert series for thirty-eight years and has kept crowds coming back for more to enjoy a warm evening listening to some sweet melodies.

And if you like to dance, there is no shortage of that either. Jack Tubbert and his wife have been dancing for twenty years and are frequent concert goers. While many artists grace the stage, the Tubberts will always make their way to Johnson park in the summer.

Tubbert: “It’s a good way to spend an evening in the summer you know, beautiful parks nice people and good bands.”

Grab your lawn chair, bring money for some popcorn and get ready to feel the beat in the heart of Liverpool.

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (NCC News) – This is an exciting time of the year for Liverpool residents, as temperatures start to rise, and musicians make plans to visit. This is the 38th year for the Liverpool Is the Place concert series held in the heart of the village.

The series is unique in the way that local sponsors are the ones backing the performances.

“All of our bands are hired by pure sponsorship. So we pay them. We all volunteer our time and go out and get sponsors. So this is not funded by anybody,” chairwoman Gwen McCarroll said.

Concert goers can bring lawn chairs and blankets to relax and enjoy the free music. The only expense they could encounter is if they want to buy some popcorn and a Coke.

Other attendees enjoy letting loose and hitting the dancefloor. Jack Tubbert, who has been dancing for two decades, says that’s what keeps him coming back.

“The music and the dancing bring me to Johnson Park. It’s a nice way to spend the evening,” Tubbert said.

Liverpool Is the Place kicked off this month with a performance by blues band Yolanda Bush and the Coolwater Collective. This was their first time being a part of the concert series.

“I really like it. I like the venue. And more than that, the people. The people are really wonderful. They really enjoyed the music, and they were into it,” Bush said.

You can visit Liverpool Is the Place’s website to check out upcoming concerts they plan to bring to the stage this summer.
