SYRACUSE, N.Y. (NCC News) – If you wanted to visit the Liverpool Public Library on Tuesday, you would’ve been out of luck because it is undergoing renovations until Thursday. Nonetheless, library workers and patrons alike took the time to help the community. However, instead of them doing it by stocking bookshelves, they volunteered at the Food Bank of Central New York.
Liverpool’s Community Engagement Librarian Deanna McGregor added that Volunteer Days happen regularly and usually draw a good crowd.
“We come once a quarter,” said McGregor. “Some of our patrons come regularly with the library, but some of them actually come on their own as well now that they’ve made the connection with the food bank.”
The Liverpool Public Library conducts community events with a number of other local organizations and businesses as well. Those include Raymour and Flanigan, Dunkin’ Donuts and the Parkrose Estates retirement community.
McGregor added the involvement she got at the Food Bank on Tuesday is exactly what she hoped for.
“It’s a goal of our library to connect with the community, but also to connect community members with each other and organizations in the community,” said McGregor. “So, we’re so happy that they’ve built this relationship.”
If her word isn’t good enough, the library even has a “Ready 2 Go” van that it takes to events.
