SYRACUSE, N.Y. (NCC News) Yesterday, Gov. Andrew Cuomo lifted all COVID-19 restrictions in response to the state hitting it’s 70% vaccination goal. Local businesses have seen that changing their procedures is bringing in more customers and clients.
Hall of Fame Barber in downtown Syracuse has seen the effects first hand with all their COVID-19 procedures being taken away. Barber Tyler Lindquist is happy that things are closer to getting back to normal.
“We tried to have people spread out on the couches…before we had them wait outside. A lot of us would wear gloves when we were cutting just as precaution, but now were back to regular no gloves no mask,” Lindquist said.
Blink Fitness in Onondaga County has also seen the immediate impact from the lift of COVID restrictions. With no need to sanitize equipment or social distance, fitness trainer Jimmy Lock says he is excited about the change.
“We were able to reopen all the equipment, all the showers. Now we don’t have to maintain that social distancing; friends and families can enjoy the gym together. It’s been beautiful, I think more people are getting more comfortable with the lift of restrictions to really get out here,” Lock said.
These business not only have changed their procedures but have also seen an increase in customers and overall business.
“I’d say it’s gone well, our business has gone back to regular. We are getting our older regulars starting to come in. Business-wise I’m starting to see our old regulars, new people. It’s totally different, I feel like its back to normal almost,” said Lindquist.
As other states start to open up and lift all restrictions New York state stands among one of the lowest in the country in COVID positivity rates.
