SYRACUSE, N.Y. (NCC News) —The 10th annual Willow Street Foundation Legends Golf Tournament is back and looking to raise even more money for Syracuse kids. 100-percent of the proceeds are donated.
The tournament took place last year, but it wasn’t necessarily their typical tournament. After selling out for their first eight tournaments, the ninth ran into some trouble due to the pandemic.
The foundation’s chairman Marc Jones said that some of their main support groups weren’t able to donate due to funds lost in the pandemic. “You know a lot of our businesses basically said, ‘well Marc, we can’t do it this year because, you know, we are trying to survive as well,'” Jones said.
Because of the losses last year, Jones said the foundation is looking to raise the stakes this year. “We want to go barnbusters this Friday. We really want to take it up to a whole nother level,” Jones said.
They’ve sold out again this year, with 144 golfers ready to participate in the tournament and even more coming for the awards dinner.
Jones and his co-founder Bob Lyons are from the Syracuse area, and Jones says local area schools are near and dear to them. They are both graduates of Christian Brothers Academy.
The proceeds from the fundraiser will go to the foundation’s programs which help kids of all ages.
The tournament features legends each year, who each donate their time, and often their money, to the local kids. This year’s tournament will feature local legends such as James Mungro, Roosevelt Bouie and Dale Shackleford.
The tournament starts at 9 A.M. on Friday, August 13th at the Links at Erie Village.
