Local Library Helps Students During Summer Local Library Helps Students During Summer

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (NCC News)-  Betts Branch Public Library hosts a variety of  free programs every summer for children from 10-18. The programs were created so children can be challenged mentally during the summer break. Just because the academic year ends it doesn’t mean that the learning does!

“Its a program for our teens for the summer, we always like to have a lot of events for kids and teens during the summer. And it’s part of our summer learning program.,” said librarian Quinn Gardener. “So for the whole month of July we have supplies out for  teens to focus on their future and what they might see their lives being like.”

The library is hosting the a ” Visionary Board Walk-in” through July.  Although students may not be eager to sit-in the library during the summer this exercise will be more productive than they think.

Visionary boards are a big part of the program but the children also have the options of arts and crafts and creating glow in the dark jugs that go with the space theme for the summer.

Fifteen students have taken the initiative and created their vision boards. Faculty expect to see the numbers increase.

” It would be nice to have more older kids participating but I do love the tweens that participate,” said Gardener.
