Syracuse, N.Y.(NCC News) — On Point for College in Syracuse is a local non-profit organization that focuses on preparing students for college and obtaining jobs for their future. In 2019, the non-profit established a partnership with the international company National Grid. “Grid for Good” was created in efforts of giving students and all residents of Central New York a chance to explore various workshops, build stackable credentials, and help students secure jobs. On Point for College is hopeful for an in-person Grid for Good program this year.
2022 will mark the first in person program since the start of the pandemic. Co-director of Programs Tealye Pinet, says working with National Grid is huge and different because it isn’t often that you see a national company partner with a community-based organization. Pinet explained the seven steps of the program and what each workshop entails:
Step 1: Incite
Step 2: Team Building
Step 3: Upscaling
Step 4: Career Coaching
Step 5: Work Experience/Job Shadowing
Step 6: Getting a Job with National Grid
Step 7: Giving Back to the Community/ Being and Ambassador
Pinet states, “The goal of On Point is to uplift the community.” Pinet expanded on the fact that National Grid diversifies their talent with individuals of all backgrounds, and gives a chance to land beneficial jobs within the company
The in-person program is slated for this September and will run for nine days. Individuals ranging from ages 16-25 are encouraged to apply, and spots for the cohort is limited but also competitive. The deadline to submit applications is Friday August 26.
