Syracuse, N.Y. (NCC News) – COVID-19 may have caused limitations for many, but one club has found the pandemic a bittersweet learning experience.
Good Morning Syracuse Club is a non-profit organization that prides itself on aiding individuals with public speaking and leadership skills through network connections.
Their goal is to have people grow their self-confidence.
The club usually performed speech practices and other developmental skills at their location in Syracuse and occasionally through Zoom.
However, they were forced to use the online video platform permanently due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The club has never looked back and its president, Pat Costello, says Zoom is important to the club.
“So our members were able to learn how to use Zoom and present themselves on Zoom using this club,” she said.
Member of Good Morning Syracuse Club, Julie Murad-Caruso says using Zoom has been beneficial towards her personal growth.
“I thought it’d be a good idea to join Good Morning Syracuse first because the time slot was the best for me. And second, because they were online. And I knew I’d be having to do this online for a while. So I thought what a perfect way to be able to practice my online speaking and my regular public speaking,” she said.
Zoom gave Good Morning Syracuse Club an alternate way of strengthening its mission.
It also opened up the chance for members to practice virtual communication skills, keeping their aim towards self-confidence and personal growth.
