LIVERPOOL–If you have ever seen a horror film, you’ll know there are plenty of things out there to scare you, like vampires, skeletons and, of course, zombies. Yet Chris Cooney, the vegan zombie, said the average American diet, with its reliance on animal products, is far scarier.
“A lot of the meat and the dairy lead to some of the leading causes of death in our country: obesity, heart disease, diabetes, cancers, stuff like that,” said Cooney.
It was this fear, in addition to a love of film, specifically the horror genre, that led him to write the first script for a vegan zombie movie. In order to practice his video editing and filming skills, he turned the concept into a vegan cooking show where anyone can go online and watch the preparation of vegan food to help you survive the zombie outbreak.
Since Cooney started The Vegan Zombie over ten years ago, he has over one-hundred-and-sixty thousand subscribers and over ten million views on his channel. He even has his own cookbook. But when asked about why he keeps doing it, he comes back to one thing.
“Messages from people saying like, we helped them go vegan, or maybe they are not quite vegan yet, but they are inspired and they eat some of our dishes a few times a week and its helped them in some way or another and that’s, I mean that’s the whole reason to keep going,” Cooney said.
Going vegan is a real step you can make today to get safer about your health, and if you need help, the vegan zombie’s recipes should make things a bit easier.
