COMING UP ON MORNINGS ON THE HILL.. THOUSANDS OF STUDENTS GATHERED TO SEE ONCE IN A LIFETIME EXPERIENCE..
I THINK THIS IS INCREDIBLE. I’VE NEVER SEEN AS MANY PEOPLE ON THE QUAD RIGHT NOW. IT’S NORMALLY LIKE THIS ONE WHEN IT’S HOT OUTSIDE, BUT I THINK IT’S REALLY A COMMUNITY GATHERING.
AND YOUR NEXT CHANCE TO SEE THE ECLIPSE.
AND IT’S A GORGEOUS DAY HERE IN SYRACUSE TODAY, THE SUN IS OUT AND TEMPERATURES HAVE A CHANCE TO CHALLENGE A RECORD HIGH. THAT AND MORE COMING UP ON YOUR FULL WEATHER FORECAST.
PLUS, GOING BALD FOR A GOOD CAUSE — HOW ONE FOUNDATION RAISES MONEY TO
BATTLE PEDIATRIC CANCER
ALL THOSE STORIES AND MORE ARE JUST AROUND THE CORNER ON MORNINGS ON THE HILL

GOOD MORNING. I’M JONATHAN KINANE THANKS FOR JOINING US FOR MORNINGS ON THE HILL.
AND I’M DEEPANJALI SHARMA HERE’S A LOOK AT TODAY’S TOP STORY, WHICH WAS HIGH IN THE SKY MONDAY AFTERNOON.
IT WAS AN INCREDIBLE DAY YESTERDAY AS THOUSANDS OF S-U STUDENTS
GOT TO EXPERIENCE A TOTAL SOLAR ECLIPSE. UNFORTUNATELY, CLOUDS MOVED IN AND FOR MOST OF US, THIS IS WHAT THE SOLAR ECLIPSE LOOKED LIKE IN CENTRAL NEW YORK.
EVEN WITH THE CLOUD COVERAGE, THE SUN BROKE THROUGH JUST ENOUGH FOR STUDENTS ON THE QUAD TO SEE A ONCE IN A LIFETIME EVENT.

AND WE’VE GOT TEAM COVERAGE FOR YOU…KRYSTIN LILLY IS OUT ON
UNIVERSITY AVE WITH REACTION FROM YESTERDAY AND ZACH PRIEHS IS HERE
IN STUDIO WITH A LOOK AT THE NEXT TIME WE CAN EXPECT TO SEE A TOTAL
SOLAR ECLIPSE HERE IN NEW YORK…KRYSTIN YOU’RE UP FIRST

YES DEEPANJALI, THE BUZZ ABOUT THE ECLIPSE IS ALL ACROSS THE GLOBE, ESPCIALLY HERE
ON THE CAMPUS OF SYRACUSE UNIVERSITY. FORGET ABOUT THE CLASSROOM, STUDENTS ARE
LEARNING STRIGHT FROM THE LAWN AS THEY GATHER TOGETHER TO WATCH THIS UNFORGETTABLE EVENT.

HERE ON THE LAWN, A LARGE GATHERING OF STUDENTS HAS TURNED THIS
EVENT INTO A COMMUNAL CELEBRATION
OF SCIENCE AND NATURE. WITH PHONES POINTED TOWRDS THE SKY AND
GLASSES IN PLACE, THE SYRACUSE UNIVERSITY COMMUNITY SHARES IN THE
AWE AND EXCITEMENT OF THE ECLIPSE
I THINK THIS IS INCREDIBLE, I’VE NEVER SEEM AS MANY PEOPLE ON THE QUAD RIGHT NOW, IT’S NORMALLY LIKE THIS WHEN IT’S HOT OUTSIDE BUT I THINK IT’S REALLY, A COMMUNITY GATHERING. YOU HAVE PEOPLE FROM ALL AGES ON THE QUAD RIGHT NOW AND IT’S SOMETHING THAT WE CAN JOIN TOGETHER IN AND WATCH THE ECLIPSE.

ALL AGES IS RIGHT. EVEN FACULTY JOINED IN ON ALL THE FUN

WE’VE GOT MORE ON THE ECLIPSE COVERAGE FROM OUR TEAM IN THE STUDIO.
THANKS KRYSTEN.

THANKS, KRISTEN. SO YOU GUYS MAY HAVE HEARD THAT ECLIPSES DON’T COME AROUND EVERY DAY, BUT THEY AREN’T ALL THE SAME, AND THEY MIGHT NOT BE QUITE AS RARE AS YOU THINK. SO LET’S EXAMINE SOME OF THE TYPES OF ECLIPSES. FIRST OFF, WE’VE GOT LUNAR ECLIPSES,

WHICH IS WHAT HAPPENS WHEN THE EARTH BLOCKS THE SUNLIGHT’S PATH TO THE MOON, WHICH CAUSES A LUNAR ECLIPSE. NOW, PARTIAL ECLIPSES. PARTIAL ECLIPSES OCCUR WHEN ONLY A PART OF THE SUN IS COVERED BY THE MOON, AND THEN THAT THAT PROVIDES A PARTIAL SHADOW. THEN ON THE EARTH. THE NEXT STEP UP, SO TO SPEAK, IS AN ANNULAR ECLIPSE, WHEN THE MOON BLOCKS THE SUN ENTIRELY, BUT THE EDGES OF THE SUN CAN STILL PEEK AROUND THE OUTSIDE OF THE MOON, PROVIDING SOME LIGHT FOR THE EARTH.

FINALLY, WHAT WE EXPERIENCED YESTERDAY HERE, AND WHAT IS SO COOL, IS A TOTAL SOLAR ECLIPSE WHEN THE MOON, AT LEAST FOR A FEW MINUTES OR SECONDS, BLOCKS THE SUN ENTIRELY, CREATING ALMOST A NIGHTTIME FEEL. THE NEXT TOTAL SOLAR ECLIPSE VISIBLE FROM THE US, TAKES PLACE IN 2044 AND IS VISIBLE FROM MONTANA, NORTH DAKOTA AND SOUTH DAKOTA. THE NEXT ECLIPSE HAPPENING ANYWHERE ACROSS THE WORLD TAKES PLACE ON OCTOBER 2ND IN THE SOUTHERN PACIFIC IN SOUTHERN SOUTH AMERICA, SO MIGHT BE A LITTLE LESS LIKELY TO CATCH THAT ONE.

SEE ECLIPSES AREN’T ALL THAT RARE. THERE WILL BE FIVE ECLIPSES OF SOME SORT, WHETHER TOTAL OR NOT, ACROSS THE WORLD WITHIN THE NEXT THREE AND A HALF YEARS. WHAT’S SO RARE IS HAVING A TOTAL SOLAR ECLIPSE. TAKE PLACE RIGHT HERE IN NEW YORK. AGAIN, THAT’S SOMETHING THAT WON’T HAPPEN UNTIL 2079, 55 YEARS FROM NOW. BACK TO YOU GUYS.

THANKS, ZACH. CERTAINLY HOPING TO MAKE IT TO THAT ONE. AND SPEAKING OF FUTURE ECLIPSES, THE NONPROFIT ORGANIZATION ASTRONOMERS WITHOUT BORDERS IS ASKING PEOPLE TO RECYCLE THEIR ECLIPSE GLASSES. THESE GLASSES WILL BE REUSED IN UNDERSERVED COMMUNITIES DURING FUTURE ECLIPSES. ACCORDING TO THE ORGANIZATION, THEY COLLECTED 3 MILLION GLASSES AFTER THE 2017 ECLIPSE, WHICH WERE THEN REUSED IN AFRICA, ASIA AND SOUTH AMERICA.

ASTRONOMERS WITHOUT BORDERS IS TAKING BOTH USED AND UNUSED GLASSES. THE UNUSED GLASSES, HOWEVER, MUST BE UNDAMAGED AND FREE FROM SCRATCHES OR TEARS. YOU CAN DROP THOSE GLASSES OFF AT NEARBY WARBY PARKER STORES THROUGHOUT CENTRAL NEW YORK.

IT’S FINALLY FEELING LIKE SPRING HERE IN CENTRAL NEW YORK. THAT’S RIGHT JONATHAN. TEMPERATURES ARE STARTING TO WARM UP. OUR MIKE OSTROVSKY GIVES US A SNEAK PEEK AT WHAT WE CAN EXPECT TODAY.

WELL, IT’S PRETTY TYPICAL SYRACUSE WEATHER TO HAVE A GORGEOUS DAY LIKE THIS THE DAY AFTER A SOLAR ECLIPSE THAT WE COULD BARELY SEE. BUT WE’LL CERTAINLY APPRECIATE THE WEATHER WE HAVE RIGHT NOW. BRIGHT AND SUNNY. NOT A CLOUD IN THE SKY. TEMPERATURES ALREADY SITTING COMFORTABLY IN THE MID 50S AND EXPECTED TO CLIMB AS HIGH AS THE MID 70S THIS AFTERNOON, WHICH WOULD PUSH AN ALL TIME RECORD.

HERE IN CENTRAL NEW YORK. JUST A GORGEOUS DAY ON CAMPUS. BUT ENJOY IT WHILE IT LASTS. BECAUSE, AS WE’LL SEE LATER IN TODAY’S NEWSCAST, THE REST A WEEK DOES NOT LOOK QUITE AS PLEASANT. BACK TO YOU GUYS IN THE STUDIO. THANKS, MIKE. EACH SPRING, DOZENS OF PEOPLE FLOCKED TO A SPECIAL EVENT AT KITTY HOYNES IN SYRACUSE. BUT NOT FOR A GUINNESS.

ISAAC DUFFY WAS THERE AND TELLS US HOW THE SCENE DRINKS FOUNDATION RAISES MONEY FOR A GOOD CAUSE. THANKS. ANCHORS. PEOPLE FORM TEAMS TO RACE TOWARD A CURE FOR PEDIATRIC CANCER AT KITTY HOYNES. HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE CAME, AND THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS WERE RAISED FOR THE CAUSE. I WANT TO SIGN. THIS MAY SEEM LIKE ANOTHER DAY OF DRUNKEN DECISION MAKING AND BEER, BUT FOR THOSE WHO ATTEND.

EXACTLY ONE YEAR AFTER YEAR, THIS IS A SPIRITUAL EXPERIENCE. IT STARTED IN FAMILIES AND SUPPORTERS OF CHILDREN WHO DIED FROM PEDIATRIC CANCER COME TO KIDS TO SHAVE THEIR HEADS FOR CANCER RESEARCH. MIKE LAMONICA, CAPTAIN OF JJ’S ANGELS, COMES TO KIDS EVERY YEAR TO SHAVE HIS HEAD IN MEMORY OF HIS DAUGHTER, JULIANA. SHE DIED 14 YEARS AGO FROM A RARE FORM OF CANCER.

AT THE TIME, JUSTIN AND I WERE COWORKERS AND, AFTER JULIANA PASSED AWAY, WE WERE WORKING. ALBERT IS WORKING REMOTELY. HE WAS IN VIRGINIA. I WAS IN NEW YORK, AND WE WANTED TO DO SOMETHING IN HONOR OF MY DAUGHTER. THIS IS YOUR THE 14TH YEAR THAT WE’VE COME, AND, EVERYBODY THAT IS HERE THAT SHOWS UP IS HERE.

LIKE, THEY REMEMBER MY DAUGHTER. AND IT MEANS SO MUCH TO ME. LAMONICA AND MANY OTHERS HAVE FORMED A BOND THAT WILL LAST A LIFETIME. PEOPLE, NO MATTER THEIR AGE OR BACKGROUND, TRAVEL THE KEYS AND HOPES THAT ONE DAY A CURE WILL BE FOUND. I GOT 14 YEARS AND I’M ALREADY MAKING PLANS FOR YOUR 15. NEXT YEAR. I’LL BE BACK.

ALWAYS. THIS WAS MY FIRST TIME ATTENDING THE EVENT AND BEING IN THE ROOM WAS ALMOST ELECTRIC. IT WAS TRULY SO EMOTIONAL. YOU COULD FEEL THE GENUINE SUPPORT FROM EVERYONE IN THE ROOM FOR THE SHAVE. THESE IN THEIR FAMILIES FOR MORNINGS ON THE HILL. I’M ZIZIC DUFFY. THANKS TO TANSY, A CERTAINLY A GREAT EVENT DOWN THERE. ANOTHER GREAT EVENT HAPPENED OVER THE WEEKEND IN CAPE AND MIGHT HAVE LOST THE GAME, BUT WHO WON THE WEEKEND?

SPORTS REPORTER PATRICK SMITH TELLS US HOW THE WOMEN CAPTURED MARCH MADNESS.

FOOT INTO THE WOMEN’S NCAA CHAMPIONSHIP GAME ON SUNDAY, MAKING IT THE MOST WATCHED BASKETBALL GAME IN FIVE YEARS. THAT INCLUDES MEN’S, WOMEN’S AND THE NBA. KEELAN CLARK POURED IN 30 POINTS, BUT IT WAS NOT ENOUGH TO LIFT THE IOWA HAWKEYES OVER SOUTH CAROLINA. DESPITE THE LOSS, CLARK IS STILL PROJECTED NUMBER ONE PICK IN THE WNBA TO THE INDIANA FEVER, AND TICKET PRICES FOR CLARK’S GAME ARE ALREADY RISING.

NEARLY 800 TICKETS WERE SOLD IN 24 HOURS FOR CLARK’S FIRST EXPECTED GAME. THE LAS VEGAS ACES ARE CHANGING ARENAS FOR THE GAME AGAINST THE FEVER TO HOLD 6000 MORE FANS. WOMEN’S BASKETBALL FEVER IS HERE. BACK TO YOU GUYS. WELL, COMING UP ON MORNINGS ON THE HILL. NEW PLANS FOR STUDENT DEBT RELIEF. AND MORE FROM OUR WEATHER REPORTER, MIKE OSTROVSKY.

WELCOME BACK. WELL, AS YOU SAID EARLIER, JONATHAN, THE TEMPERATURES LOOK GREAT OUTSIDE. IT LOOKS LIKE SPRING MIGHT HAVE ACTUALLY SPRUNG IN SYRACUSE. WELL, AS A PROUD TOWNEE, I CAN SAY. YOU’RE NEVER SURE UNTIL YOU’RE ABSOLUTELY SURE. WE’VE HAD SNOW HERE ON MOTHER’S DAY, AND I WOULDN’T BE SURPRISED IF IT SNOWED ON GRADUATION DAY. BUT IT IS TIME FOR A WEATHER CHECK TODAY.

MIKE OSTROVSKY IS IN STUDIO WITH A FULL LOOK AT YOUR FULL FORECAST. WELL, JONATHAN, THERE’S A REASON I WORE THE YELLOW TIE TODAY, BECAUSE AT LEAST RIGHT NOW IT IS STARTING TO GET SUNNY OUTSIDE. CURRENTLY, ABOUT 58 DEGREES. FEELS AT LEAST THAT WARM, POSSIBLY WARMER. WHEN I STEPPED OUTSIDE JUST A MOMENT AGO, HUMIDITY ONLY 59%, BUT STILL FEELING MUCH BETTER THAN IT HAS BEEN.

THESE LAST COUPLE DAYS. AND AS I SAID EARLIER, OF COURSE WE GET TO NICE SUNNY DAY THE DAY AFTER A SOLAR ECLIPSE, BUT YOU’LL TAKE WHATEVER YOU CAN GET HERE IN SYRACUSE. AS FOR HOW TODAY STACKS UP TO HISTORICALLY, THE ALL TIME RECORD HIGH WAS 77, SO A REAL CHANCE TO ACTUALLY PUSH THAT RECORD TODAY, IF WE CAN JUST GET THAT EXTRA 2 OR 3 DEGREES.

THANKFULLY, WE’RE NOT ANYWHERE NEAR THE ALL TIME LOW OF 15 AS WE GO INTO THE WEEK. THE DAY FORECAST TOMORROW MORNING WILL BE ABOUT THE SAME. WE START TO SEE A BIT OF RAIN COME ALONG. HIGH OF 60 IN THE MORNING. GOING TO 66 IN THE AFTERNOON. ABOUT A QUARTER INCH OF RAIN EXPECTED IN THE MORNING THROUGHOUT THE EARLY PART OF THE DAY AND INTO THE NIGHT.

THERE IS A BIT OF A A BIT OF A BREAK INTO THAT MIDDLE AFTERNOON PART OF THE DAY WHERE WE WILL SEE SOME SUNSHINE, AND THAT’S WHEN YOU SHOULD REALLY TAKE IT IN, BECAUSE AS WE GET INTO THE REST OF THIS WEEK’S FORECAST, THERE’S REALLY NOT A LOT OF IT. RAIN, RAIN, RAIN FOR THE NEXT THREE DAYS AFTER THAT.

THURSDAY, FRIDAY, SATURDAY FRIDAY IS GOING TO BE THE WORST OF IT, WITH THUNDERSTORMS IN THE EARLY INTO A STEADY RAIN IN THE AFTERNOON, A LITTLE OVER THREE QUARTERS OF AN INCH, POSSIBLY A FULL INCH EXPECTED IN THAT ONE. IT COOLS OFF A BIT ON SATURDAY AS WE GO DOWN IN THE HIGHS OF THE MID-FIFTIES, WARMING BACK UP THANKFULLY ON SUNDAY, BUT AGAIN, A WET AND SOGGY DAY.

SO HOPEFULLY YOU DON’T HAVE TO BE OUTSIDE LONGER THAN A FEW MINUTES AT A TIME. THIS WEEK. MONDAY WE HOPEFULLY GETS A MUCH BETTER START TO THE WEEK, WITH SOME PARTLY CLOUDY SKIES, HIGH OF 62. THAT’S ALL I’VE GOT FOR WEATHER THIS MORNING. JONATHAN, BACK TO YOU IN THE STUDIO. LISTEN, AS LONG AS IT’S LIKE 50 DEGREES OR WARMER, I’M FINE WITH THAT.

I DON’T KNOW, I DON’T KNOW ABOUT YOU, JULIE. I’LL. I’LL TAKE RAIN AS LONG AS I DON’T NEED MY WINTER COAT. BUT MORE STUDENT DEBT RELIEF COULD BE ON THE WAY. THIS NEW WHITE HOUSE STRATEGY WOULD HELP MORE THAN 30 MILLION BORROWERS. THE INITIATIVE TARGETS FEDERAL BORROWERS WHO HAVE UNPAID INTEREST BEYOND A CERTAIN THRESHOLD. 20 OR MORE YEARS, AND REPAYMENT ELIGIBILITY FOR LOAN PROGRAMS IN WHICH THEY’RE NOT ENROLLED, AND EDUCATION FROM A SO-CALLED LOW FINANCIAL VALUE PROGRAM.

AND CERTAINLY HARDSHIPS LIKE MEDICAL DEBT. THE NEW PLANS ARE NOT READY FOR SIGNUPS YET. IT COULD ACTUALLY TAKE TWO MONTHS TO FINALIZE THEM, AND THEY LIKELY FACE LEGAL CHALLENGES. LAWMAKERS ARE ALSO WORKING ON A PLAN TO GIVE YOU A RIGHT TO ONLINE PRIVACY. A BIPARTISAN DRAFT WOULD CREATE A LAW REGULATING HOW COMPANIES CAN COLLECT, SHARE AND USE AMERICANS ONLINE DATA.

THE PROPOSED AMERICAN PRIVACY RIGHTS ACT COVERS VIRTUALLY EVERY TYPE OF ORGANIZATION AN INTERNET USER MIGHT INTERACT WITH ON A DAILY BASIS. THE LAW WOULD BAN THE TRANSFER OF SENSITIVE DATA TO THIRD PARTIES UNLESS EXPLICITLY GIVEN. IT WOULD ALSO ALLOW USERS TO OPT OUT OF TARGETING ADVERTISING. AND NOW TAKE A LOOK AT THIS. PASSENGER FOOTAGE SHOWS AN ENGINE COVER FALLING OFF A SOUTHWEST AIRLINES PLANE DURING TAKEOFF.

THE CAR WAS STRUCK PART OF THE PLANE’S WING. THE PLANE WAS SCHEDULED TO FLY FROM DENVER TO HOUSTON ON SUNDAY. FLIGHTAWARE SAYS THE PLANE RETURNED SAFELY TO DENVER ABOUT 35 MINUTES AFTER IT TOOK OFF. NO ONE WAS HURT. THE FEDERAL AVIATION ADMINISTRATION IS INVESTIGATING THE INCIDENT. AND COMING UP ON WARNINGS ON A THE S-U WOMEN’S LACROSSE TEAM CONTINUES TO RACK UP WINS.

AND WE HAVE A LOOK AT SPRING PRACTICE FOR AC FOOTBALL STUDENTS.

GOOD MORNING. I’M PATRICK SMITH WITH YOUR ORANGE SPORTS UPDATE HERE ON MORNINGS ON THE HILL. EXACTLY A WEEK AGO, THE SYRACUSE MEN’S LACROSSE TEAM TOOK A VISIT TO NUMBER 12 CORNELL. AND ANOTHER TOP MATCHUP FOR THE ORANGE. AND LET’S JUST SAY I WAS THERE AND IT WASN’T THE PRETTIEST GAME TO WATCH. SO IF YOU DIDN’T SEE IT, WELL, YOU MIGHT WANT TO PUT THOSE ECLIPSE GLASSES BACK ON BECAUSE IT WAS UGLY.

SO NUMBER FOUR, SYRACUSE WAS LOOKING TO BOUNCE BACK AFTER LOSING A THRILLER AGAINST NOTRE DAME. THIS GAME GOES FROM THE HIGHEST HIGHS TO EVEN THE LOWEST LOWS. WE CUT FOR IT TO FOUR MINUTES. AND IN JOEY MOLINA BEHIND IT X SKINNIES OPTIONS UP TOP AND FINDS OWEN HILTZ, WHO RIPS IT HOME. CHEROKEE STARTED THIS GAME OFF REALLY STRONG.

A FEW MINUTES LATER. SYRACUSE ON A50 RUN. AND HERE’S FINN THOMPSON MAKES IT SIX WITH A QUICK DUMP. ASSISTANT COACH PAT MARCH WAS EJECTED IN THE FIRST QUARTER AND THINGS AFTER THAT WENT DOWNHILL. JOYCE MOLINA HERE WITH A NASTY BEHIND THE BACK SHOT. SYRACUSE STILL UP JUMPING TO THE FOURTH NOW. AND WHILE CORNELL HASN’T GOTTEN THEMSELVES OR THEY HAVE GOTTEN THEMSELVES TO JUST DOWN ONE GOALTENDER WILL MARK CAME UP HUGE IN THE FOURTH QUARTER.

BUT AFTER A CRAZY FOURTH, WE GO TO DOUBLE OVERTIME. AND THERE IT IS. C-J CURSE FINDS THE GAME WINNER FOR THE BIG RED. CORNELL DEFEAT SYRACUSE 18 TO 17. SYRACUSE WILL PLAY NORTH CAROLINA ON APRIL 15TH. THE SYRACUSE WOMEN’S LACROSSE TEAM HAS BEEN ROLLING THESE PAST FEW WEEKS. THEY’RE ON A CURRENTLY ON A 17 WIN STREAK. THEY’RE LOOKING TO EXTEND THAT STREAK THIS PAST SATURDAY AGAINST PITTSBURGH.

PITTSBURGH WOMEN’S LACROSSE, ONE OF THE NEWEST ADDITIONS IN THE DIVISION OF ACC LACROSSE, STARTING THEIR INAUGURAL SEASON IN 2022. A QUICK START FOR NATALIE SMITH WITH A FREE POSSESSION SHOT PUTS THE ORANGE UP FIRST. FEW MINUTES LATER. ORANGE UP ONE. AND HERE’S PEYTON RALEY AND THAT’S HER SECOND GOAL OF THE DAY. NEXT POSSESSION EMMA TYRELL, WHO HAD A TEAM HIGH SIX GOALS AND ONE ASSIST ON THE DAY.

HERE’S SOME BEAUTIFUL PASSING AROUND AND RILEY FINISHES IT OFF. NATALIE SMITH HERE WITH TWO QUICK GOALS AS YOU’LL BE ABLE TO SEE IN JUST A SECOND. SHE FINISHED THE DAY OFF WITH A HAT TRICK. IT WAS ALL ORANGE. SAVANNAH SWEITZER WHO WHO ELSE THEN? EMMA TYRELL RIGHT HERE. AS SHE PASSES BACK. SYRACUSE WILL GO ON TO WIN BIG 16 TO 7, EXTENDING THEIR WINNING STREAK TO EIGHT.

THE ORANGE CLOSED OUT THE REGULAR SEASON WITH A PAIR OF ROAD GAMES STARTING SATURDAY, APRIL 13TH AT CLEMSON. A FEW WEEKS AGO, THE SYRACUSE WOMEN’S BASKETBALL TEAM PLAYED IN THE NCAA TOURNAMENT IN STORES. CONNECTICUT. OUR SPORTS REPORTER JOSH CRAWFORD WAS IN STORES FOR THE COVERAGE. HE’S IN LIVE IN FRONT OF THE JAMIE WIRELESS DOME RIGHT NOW. JOSH. YEAH.

PATTY. IT WAS MY FIRST TIME IN THE CONSTITUTION STATE AND I COULDN’T ASK FOR A BETTER WEEKEND. I LOVE THE HOOPS. IT’S A HIGH LEVEL OFF THE ROLLS. THE WHOLE WEEKEND ITSELF WAS IS A TREAT TO ME. AND COACHING IN THE AGE OF FAIRFIELD. THE CHERRY ON TOP GETTING THE FIRST EVER EASY DOUBLE A TOURNAMENT WIN IN THE FELICIA LIGGETT, JACK ARROW AND ISU.

LET’S SEE HOW THEY’RE RUNNING AROUND. THOUGHTS FOR A WEEK BECAUSE OF HOW AWESOME THE ISSUE WOMEN WERE THIS YEAR, I GOT A CHANCE TO COVER THEIR FIRST ROUND NCAA TOURNAMENT MATCHUP IS DORES, CONNECTICUT AT THE FAMED GAMBLE PAVILION ON THE CAMPUS OF THE UNIVERSITY OF CONNECTICUT. STORRS IS ONLY FOUR HOURS AWAY FROM SYRACUSE, SO I WAS ABLE TO GO UP A DAY EARLY BEFORE THE GAME TO DO PREGAME INTERVIEWS.

I SPOKE WITH COACH JACK AND GEORGE WOOLEY AND GOT TO WATCH THE FIRST 15 MINUTES OF THEIR PRACTICE. YEAH, SO WE PRIDE OURSELVES ON A LOT OF DIFFERENT THINGS, LIKE WE WANT TO BE BETTER ON THE BALL AND STRONG IN THE BOX, BOXING OUT REBOUNDING AND THINGS LIKE THAT. SO THESE PRACTICES HAVE BEEN GOING REALLY HARD, JUST GETTING PREPARED FOR THOSE THINGS AND GETTING BACK TO THE TEAM THAT WE KNOW WHO WE ARE.

AND I THINK WE LOST THAT FOR A SECOND. IN THE MORNING OF THE GAME, I DROVE AN HOUR NORTH TO SPRINGFIELD, MASS. TO VISIT THE BASKETBALL HALL OF FAME, AND AS A LIFELONG HOOPER, IT WAS EVERYTHING I COULD IMAGINE AND MORE GETTING TO GAMBLE ON GAME DAY. IT WAS AN ELECTRIC ENVIRONMENT. THE GAME ITSELF WAS RATHER INDICATIVE OF TUESDAY’S SEASON UP TO THAT POINT, AS YOU TRAIL FOR MOST OF THE FIRST HALF BUT TOOK A FOURTH QUARTER LEAD, OVERCOMING ADVERSITY TO GET COLLEGE HER FIRST EVER NCAA TOURNAMENT VICTORY.

A CIRCUS THE SEASON LOOKED TO BE LOST AT THE AGE OF FAIR. IT WENT DOWN CRYING IN THE HEAP. IT WAS UNABLE TO LEAVE THE COURT ON HER OWN POWER, BUT SHE CAME ROARING BACK WITH 13 FOURTH QUARTER POINTS TO KNOCK OFF THE WILDCATS 74 TO 69. AFTER THE GAME, I RUSHED TO GET POSTGAME SOUND FROM COACH JACK AND KENNEDY PERKINS.

CP JOSH CRAWFORD AT 247. THIS IS NOT THE FIRST TIME YOU’VE BEEN A CRITICAL, YOU KNOW, SECOND HALF PUNCH, YOU KNOW, FOR THE TEAM. WHAT ABOUT YOUR GAME ABOUT THIS TEAM ALLOWS IT TO BE SO COLLISION CRITICAL MOMENTS. NO. PLUS 13 TO 22 MINUTES I THINK JUST STAYING READY WHENEVER MY NAME IS CALLED IT FINISHED IT OFF WITH SOME POST-GAME STANDOFFS, WHICH I WILL POST ON TWITTER LATER THAT NIGHT FOR MY FIRST EVER TOURNAMENT GAME COVERAGE.

IT WAS A GRATIFYING EXPERIENCE, AND I’M GLAD MY FIRST EVER NCAA TOURNAMENT GAME CAME OUT WITH THE ISSUE WIN. THAT MUST BE A GOOD OMEN. GO ORANGE!

NOW, TO CAP OFF HER AMAZING COLLEGIATE CAREER, THE AGE OF FAIR WAS ELECTED TO THE WOMEN’S COLLEGE BASKETBALL ALL-STAR GAME FEATURING TEAM CHERYL MILLER. FIRST TEAM NANCY LIEBERMAN SCORED 19 POINTS AND GOT THE GAME WINNING LAYUP OF A ELAM ENDING. NOW, MOST RECENTLY ESPN MY AGENT AS THE 10TH OVERALL PICK TO THE CONNECTICUT SUN. IN THE LATEST WNBA MOCK DRAFT FOR COACH JACK.

SHE GETS A BIG GIFT WITH THE RETURN OF ISABEL PEREZ AT THE SEVENTH YEAR. COVID SENIOR WAS HURT FOR ABOUT TWO MONTHS ON A SEASON. IT’S AVERAGED JUST UNDER SIX POINTS AND THREE REBOUNDS THIS SEASON, INCLUDING A SEASON HIGH 14 POINTS. FIRST IS NC STATE IN THE SEC TOURNAMENT WITH THE RETURN OF ISABEL PEREZ ZERO. AND THE PERSONNEL OF THE COACHING LOOK FOR THIS ISSUE.

WOMEN’S TEAM TO MAKE ANOTHER TOURNAMENT RUN.

THANKS, JOSH. THAT WILL DO IT FOR SPORTS. BACK TO THE JULIE AND JONATHAN STILL TO COME HERE ON MORNINGS ON THE HILL. THE BOSS COMES BACK TO THE DOME LATER THIS MONTH. AND FOR THAT WE TESTED OUR STAFF ON THEIR BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN KNOWLEDGE.

WITH MONSTER JAM. NOW, OVER THE NEXT BIG EVENT TO TAKE PLACE AT THE JMA DOME IS THE BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN CONCERT ON APRIL 18TH. BRUCE IS KNOWN AS THE BOSS, BUT APPARENTLY NOT KNOWN BY ALL OUR MORNINGS ON THE WHOLE TEAM. WE ALSO COLLEAGUES WHAT IS THEIR FAVORITE BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN SONG? IF THEY EVEN HAVE ON I DO, AND I’M SURE IT’S NOT.

I’M NOT THE ONLY ONE THAT LOVES BORN IN THE USA AND MAYBE A BIG CONCERT, MAYBE A BIT OF A CONTROVERSIAL SONG, BUT I DO COMPLETELY, AGREE WITH WHAT BRUCE IS SAYING IN IT. BRUCE BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN, DO YOU HAVE A FAVORITE BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN SONG? DREAM ONE LIKE, THAT’S A REALLY GOOD SONG. DO YOU HAVE A FAVORITE BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN SONG?

YOU KNOW, BRUCE IS A BIT BEFORE MY TIME, BUT I WOULD HAVE TO SAY PROBABLY BORN IN THE USA. WHITNEY, DO YOU HAVE A FAVORITE, BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN? I DO NOT KNOW ANY NAMES. REALLY? DON’T KNOW. MAYBE IF I HEAR THEM, I WILL KNOW THEM. BUT HE’S DEFINITELY NOT IN MY PLAYLIST. I’M SORRY. RICO, HOW ABOUT YOU?

DO YOU HAVE A FAVORITE BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN SONG? I DO NOT KNOW. FAVORITE BRUCE. OKAY, SO WE’RE WE’RE OVER TWO HERE. KATY I ALSO DON’T HAVE YOU DON’T HAVE. SO WE’RE OKAY. YEAH. THE OVER THREE WITH BRUCE BUT OKAY THEN BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN, DO YOU HAVE A FAVORITE BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN SONG? I ACTUALLY DON’T KNOW HIM. I DON’T KNOW WHO HE’S HERE.

OKAY, OKAY. JOSH, DO YOU HAVE A FAVORITE BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN SONG? WELL, THANKS. ON MY THE CORRECTION TO SOME OF MY WONDERFUL COLLEAGUES AND CLASSMATES, I’M NOW WHERE OF THE MAIN BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN SONG THAT I KNOW, BORN IN THE USA IS NOT, THE HIT OF NASHVILLE, TENNESSEE LEGEND MILEY CYRUS PARTY IN THE USA. BIG DIFFERENCE. ONE WORD, BIG DIFFERENCE.

SO I’M GONNA GO WITH THAT IN, THE COVER OF NIGHT SHIFT THAT, THAT HE DID. BECAUSE, YOU KNOW, LIKE I SAID, I’M I’M BLACK OUT OF TIME. SO SHOUT OF THE COMMODORES. ZACK, WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN SONG? I’M GOING TO HAVE TO GO DANCING IN THE DARK. DANCING IN THE DARK? YEAH. IT’S OKAY. FAVORITE. AND WHY IS THERE A REASON?

WELL, IT’S PROBABLY THE ONLY BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN SONG COULD NAME OFF THE TOP OF MY HEAD, BUT I DO LIKE IT, THOUGH. AND IRONICALLY, CAN YOU GIVE US A COUPLE OF LINES FROM IT? NO, NO. OH, THAT’S THAT’S A TOUGH ASK. AND I DON’T I DON’T WANT TO PUT YOU GUYS THROUGH THAT. I DON’T I DON’T WANT TO PUT YOU THROUGH THAT.

EVEN IF WE’RE JUST DANCING IN THAT, THE IT CAN’T START THE FIGHT AGAINST, I’M GONNA HAVE TO GO TO GLORY DAYS. GLORY. IT’S JUST A CLASSIC. YOU GOT TO GO WITH IT. OKAY? YEAH. I’LL ASK YOU. BARRY. HEY, YOU WANT TO BE ON BOOZE? I ALWAYS. WELL, AT LEAST WE HAVE GOT SOME FANS IN OUR CREW.

I MEAN, WE I DON’T KNOW, I CAN’T I CAN’T REALLY BLAME YOU FOR NOT KNOWING MUCH. SPRINGSTEEN. RIGHT. YOU KNOW, ANYTHING YOU LIKE OUT OF OUT OF WHAT YOU HEARD OR. I THINK THE ONE THAT PATRICK PLAYED WAS ACTUALLY REALLY GOOD. I DON’T REMEMBER THE NAME, BUT, YEAH, I THINK I LOVE THE TUNES ON IT. YEAH. BUT YEAH, LIKE MY KNOWLEDGE ON BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN AREN’T HOLLYWOOD LIKE, MUSIC IS REALLY BAD.

YEAH. ALL YOU NEED TO REMEMBER IS THAT IT’S BORN IN THE USA AND NOT PARTY IN THE USA. OTHERWISE THAN THAT, I THINK YOU’LL BE OKAY. YOU KNOW, A LOT OF PEOPLE IN SYRACUSE OBVIOUSLY LOOKING FORWARD TO BRUCE. I HAVE A LOT OF FAMILY MEMBERS WHO WHO HAVE TICKETS AND, YOU KNOW, HE’S SUPPOSED TO COME IN THE FALL.

THEY’RE LOOKING FORWARD TO HIM. I THINK THIS MIGHT BE A LITTLE CONTROVERSIAL, THAT BRUCE IS JUST A TINY BIT OVERRATED, BUT I DON’T KNOW. BUT THAT’S ALL. ALL THE TIME WE HAVE HERE FOR MORNINGS ON THE HILL. WE WILL, BE SURE TO FOLLOW US ON SOCIAL MEDIA. I’M JONATHAN CANNON, AND I’M THE BAND’S NEW SHOW.

THANKS FOR WATCHING ORANGE NATION. WE’LL SEE YOU NEXT TUESDAY LIVE AT 10 A.M. RIGHT HERE ON OTN
