SARAH, YOU GOT TO SIT IN ON THIS WEEKS MEETING OF A NEW INIATIVE ON CAMPUS… CAN YOU TELL US ABOUT IT?
YES, DARRELL. THIS YEAR A NEW INTIATIVE IS FOCUSING ON EMPOWERING SYRACUSE UNIVERSITY MINORITY MEN.
“I have to think about my race everyday. And about like how that affects me in day-to-day
life.”
Men of Color is an initiative that doesn’t back down from talking about uncomfortable. This weeks discussion was on a video titled, ‘A Conversation with White People on Race.’ ”
“You’re black, you’re Latinx, or you’re Asian so in this society you’ve gotta walk a certain way, talk a certain way.”
Men of Color supports minority men through group discussions, academic support, volunteer events and leadership development. For Dylan Antigua, Men of Color is the brotherhood he was looking for.
“I was also the first person in my family to go to college, so obviously the transition was pretty hard especially in terms of finding a community or a sense of brotherhood. I’m also an only child so that’s something I never really experienced growing up.
They build that brotherhood through their weekly discussions and bonding activities like their upcoming barber shop talk. Avinash Jagroo says this couldn’t have come at a better time for him.
“I felt a bit marginalized by the school, a bit ostracized as well. I got the email literally right after the first sit-in and I thought, ‘wow, this is dope. This could potentially make a difference.’
And for their Graduate Coordinator, D’Andre Henderson, Men of Color…
“It’s definitely really rewarding because in the beginning you never know, like with this being the first year, with it being the inaugural year, you never know what the turnout is
going to be, what the numbers are going to be. If the numbers are going to shrink every single week but we’ve had- we’ve maintained consistency throughout the weeks.”
MEN OF COLOR IS HOSTING THEIR CONVOCATION MARCH 26 FROM 7:00 TO 9:00 PM
TIME TO CHECK YOUR WEATHER FOR TODAY.
JILLIAN ANDREWS IS LIVE OUT ON UNIVERSITY AVE TO TELL US WHAT TO EXPECT.

Warren is gearing up for the Nevada Democratic Presidential debate this Friday where Bloomberg will make his first appearance in a debate.
Beauty meets business.
Earlier this morning, our own Alyssa Lyons sat down with a graduate student who created her own cosmetic line.
Last year in the summer of 2019 Kyla Wright was ready to take on the lifestyle beat and found a desire to create her own beauty line.
Wright created the K’Luxe Experience, to show that beauty can be an experience and leave the user with a little more.
Wright is working on dropping new products to her online site, including:
That link will be available on our website, NCC News Online.
