ryan
the syracuse county executive said he’s
been working for weeks
to try and get covid 19 vaccines into
public colleges and universities
since syracuse university is one of the
largest schools in onondaga county
we were the first priority we are
getting
syracuse university 1500 doses

protection
the syracuse vice chancellor says they
are ready to get the student body
vaccinated
as soon as possible unbeknownst to a lot
of people it was syracuse university’s
health center team that was part of the
county’s team doing the vaccinations so
that team has already been trained they
understand the protocol
so they are uniquely suited to very
quickly turn around and set up a
vaccination clinic here
in an email sent to students yesterday
evening su encouraged
everyone to sign up they also added new
regulations for those students who elect
to do so
su students who submit proof of
vaccination can now bypass quarantine if
contact traced
and can watch games in the dome without
a pre-arrival test
scu administration expressed optimism
about this new step in the university’s
chances
at becoming fully in person this fall

a safe
community
vaccines are in hot demand and while you
might not be able to get your vaccine

nadelman says it’s all about raising
awareness and educating students so we
can return
to normal life as young communications
professionals and
young marketing professionals and then
as well on the teenage side as
young advertising professionals to
communicate with
students about the importance of the
vaccine and then also educate
students about the about the vaccine
syracuse university announced the return
of its summer college program
our rob flax tells us how the program is
helping the syracuse community
get a leg up for higher education rob
well that’s right in that building
behind me is where that meeting took
place where the community members from
syracuse and the city school district
came together to announce the joyful
return of the summer program
syracuse university’s college program is
gearing up
for a comeback the program offers high
schoolers the chance to try out
different skills
in pre-major programs now mayor ben
walsh praised the program
pointing to it as another partnership
between the school
and the city of syracuse the reason
we’ve gotten through the past year
is because of our partnerships anytime
we need
the university to step up and to help us
whether it’s on the educational front on
the neighborhood front
the university steps up he believes the
program could put the city
on the right track with graduation and
skills training
despite the pause from covet we need to
make sure
that our kids have all the tools they
need and also understand that there are
different pathways
to progress it may be graduating from
high school
and coming to syracuse university to get
your degree it may be
going through a cte program and
graduating high school and going right
into the workforce
the goal is to provide as many pathways
and to support our kids
with the various partnerships that we’ve
discussed today
and vice chancellor michael haynie
believes the program is a return for
syracuse’s tradition
of giving back for more than 60 years
syracuse university has been providing
transformative pre-college experience
pre-college experiences to high school
students
syracuse university summer college is an
opportunity for high school students to
explore
potential college majors and pursue
academic interests in a whole variety of
courses
36 students from the city of syracuse
school district
will be able to participate in the
program
now those 36 students from the city
school district will be joining the
program but they’re not the only ones in
fact the program
actually even takes international
applications so
really a partnership between su and
everyone who wants to come and get that
job training
and really enjoy the benefits of the
summer program and city school district
officials say
this could be the difference between
students not having good outcomes
and being able to enter the workforce
workplace and college
safely rob flax mornings on the hill
syracuse students welcomed the new food
chain five guys to the marshall
apartments
our mornings on the hill reporter cyera
williams covered their grand opening
tuesday morning
oh i’m stoked oh my god i’m so happy
because it makes
a lot easier getting food around here
especially late at night nothing’s open
so it’s not not that they’re open till
10 i think that’s a big deal
that excitement for the grand opening of
five guys
poured into the streets and filled their
cups syracuse students now have another
place to grab a quick
bite and revenues looking consistent for
the company
this has been spectacular here it’s a
great location the city is great this is
our fifth location in the syracuse area
and uh this is the first time we’ve done
it where there’s no parking so it’s
going to be a new experience with us
but with su here i’m gonna say it’s
going to be a success for us
not only are syracuse students excited
about five guys coming to marshall
street
but the recruitment and talent manager
said that he will be opening up
an additional 20 jobs which could
provide
employment to syracuse students like to
get up to probably 40 by the time
right now we have a lot of people from
our dewitt location because we closed
that location for five weeks so half of
that
most of that crew came here but when
those guys leave we’re going to try to
at least get 20 more people in young
says they offer a competitive salary for
students but schoenberg
thinks differently i mean the student
dining hall jobs are pretty good they’re
about the same and very flexible with
the hours so we’ll see how
five guys compete with that oh you think
it’s gonna be competitive oh yeah for
sure
for sure right under the marshall rabbit
says their five guys grand opening
was a success and welcomed students to
drop by and grab a burger
in syracuse cyera williams mornings on
the hill coming up on mornings on the
hill
the ischool is launching new programs
what this means for current

showers today
but before the week is over you may see
those april showers
right now it is 54 degrees and it feels
like 52 degrees
but it may hit the 60s as noon arrives

with a 23 percent
chance of precipitation and back up to
the 70s
with a high of 73 for saturday and
sundays
and sunday those umbrellas may have to
make an appearance with a low of 69 and
a 47
chance of precipitation now spring here
in syracuse can last for 15 minutes or
even some months but just keep those
jackets umbrellas and even those snow
boots to your side because
you never know what may happen now back
to you all in the studio i’m darasha
singleton reporting live here on campus
small group tours are back at syracuse
university but only for admitted
students
and one family member from the same home
tours will be
entirely outside with no access to any
university buildings
four groups are allowed per tour and
visitors are required to maintain
social distancing from staff and tour
guides in addition

ischool has received the green light
from new york state to implement two new
undergraduate majors for the upcoming
school year
brendan scandland is live with the latest
on the new programs brendan
that’s right adriana after 30 years of
only offering
one undergraduate major the ischool has
announced they will be implementing
two new programs for undergrads this
fall
in 1987 the ischool started offering a
bachelor of science degree in
information management and technology or
imnt
the only undergraduate degree offered by
the school until now
two new majors will be offered this fall
applied data analytics and innovation
society and technology director of
undergraduate programs bruce kingma
says the new programs are a result of
popular concentrations under the imt
degree we started getting a lot of
students that you know were interested
in academic diversity and it made sense
to sort of you know birth you might say
two new majors out of the original
the new applied data analytics major
stems from the popular data analytics
concentration
our applied data analytics major is
all data all the time to make certain we
produce the smartest individuals
that know how to use that data and some
students are excited to potentially
specify their major
and their coursework more specific
which the major i’m in right now is very
broad so i think that having
just the data analytics major would make
me stand out just a little bit more the
new innovation society and technology
major will aim to advance equity and
justice through technology and according
to kingma
the new ist major is coming at a time
where ethics are playing a larger role
in big
tech companies the use of information
politics all this kind of ethical use of
information
biased algorithms there are a lot of
companies that now have
ethics officers or you know people that
are on top of this facebook is hiring a
lot of people
because they knew that you know they
don’t quite have it right and they need
good people like this to help them out
and whether you’re an i school student
or not if you’re interested in the new
programs
be sure to check out the undergraduate
programs page on the ischool website
reporting live for mornings on the hill
i’m brendan scanland back to you guys in
the studio
still to come here on mornings on the
hill the college basketball season has
come to an end
recapping two incredible march madness
tournaments when we come back
good morning and welcome to orange
sports i’m madison hilimire
a top 10 matchup for the syracuse men’s
lacrosse team as they battled the notre
dame fighting irish in the dome this
past saturday
in the first half it was all orange as
jamie tromboli
rips it for a goal and the qs quickly
racked up goals from trimboli
owen siebold and back to back goals from
steven rayfest to race out to a 4-1 lead
but the irish storm back with a nine
goal second quarter
third quarter the orange show some life
late in the third with a string of goals
to pull
to within three but the notre dame but
notre dame tallied all fourth quarter
goals to down the orange 18-11.
the dagger for the orange they only won
nine face-offs total and were dominated
in the ground
while battle by the irish 45-20. after
the game head coach john desco said
not much was working for the orange
today we kind of
fooled ourselves a little bit having the
early lead and
started to relax and obviously there
with their face-offs having all those
possessions
uh and i thought i just thought we kind
of came apart a little bit defensively
and just the wheels came off in the
second quarter that’s for sure
the orange return to action tomorrow at
home against ualbany at 5.
it’s been a long five months for
syracuse men’s and women’s basketball
our mat mlodzinski reflects on the season
and
looks ahead to next season
back in november coaches and players
weren’t even sure if the college
basketball season was even going to be
able to be completed
but on monday the season finished it’s
been two years since the last college
basketball champions were crowned
but now the bittersweet wait is over on
the woman’s side
stanford captured its third national
championship defeating arizona
a day later baylor won their first
handing gonzaga
its first and only loss of the season
and with that
one shining moment allows all college
basketball teams
including syracuse to reflect on the
emotional season
that was it was really difficult to come
back
and and i just didn’t feel like
i was the same
but i’ll just say like i’m proud of
myself
this is one of the best years that i ca
i’ve ever had coaching
for these guys to get through this and
to get to this stage
um i think is just it’s just
unbelievable
absolutely unbelievable i couldn’t be
more proud of a basketball team than i
am of this team
for tiana mangakaya the road ended
against uconn
marking the end of her illustrious
career in orange
for coach boeheim and the rest of his
team the sweet 16 loss
signifies a fresh start and our defense
was great it’s gone a lot better
throughout from the first game to this
game our defense was a lot
improved night and day so i think we can
build off this
and looking forward to the off season
and just
getting back in the gym
both teams are already reloading for
next year each having added
two transfers in the past week and a
half for jim boeheim
it’s cole swider coming from villanova
he’s a sharpshooter from the outside
as the queues looks to reduce heading
into next year for mornings on the hill
i’m mat mlodzinski
thanks matt hopefully both teams can
reload for next year
and that’ll do it for sports this
morning we’ll be right back with more
mornings on the hill
concerts sporting events wedding
receptions and other outdoor
gatherings have been altered by the
coronavirus pandemic
and by the and by mornings on the hill
reporter talha rao tells us how the
introduction of a new app
is taking a step in the right direction
well there’s an app for everything these
days and now with the word from governor
andrew cuomo that the excelsior pass
will be used at the point of entrance
places such as theaters major stadiums
arenas wedding receptions catered events
and other such events in accordance with
the new york state guidelines
will be able to utilize the app as a
part of its initial launch
welcome to 2021 where a pass on your
phone will work as a passport for
attending events
inside the excelsior app you will be
able to store your covid 19 results
and your vaccination status the pass
will have a qr code which will be
verified by a companion app
to confirm the person’s information to
begin
you must go online to epass.ny.gov
home scroll down and hit get started
from there accept the disclaimer and
fill out information on the following
page
remember you are not a robot
once you fill out your personal
information verify your identity and
answer a few questions regarding your
vaccination
or test in case your past gets denied
don’t panic and understand it’s because
of one of these five reasons
which include that it must have been
less than 14 days since you received the
last dose of the covid 19 vaccine
and it has been more than 90 days since
you last received the dose
now the plan is in line with governor
andrew cuomo’s plan to boost the state’s
economy faster
and if it shows promise while events
like concerts and weddings will boost
will experience a boost in its capacity
with mornings on the hills i’m talha rao
hey adriana when’s the last time you
went to a concert
um i think it might have been two years
ago
which is insane where’s the first place
you’re gonna go when everything opens
back up michael
um definitely probably just just a
concert i love
listening to music live it’s one of my
favorite things i think the last concert
i went to was Kasey musgraves almost
like a year and a half ago
i went to uh panic at the disco about
two years ago
so quite a bit before the pandemic
unfortunately didn’t go to any other
ones but
maybe we’ll see some good ones in
syracuse coming soon well
definitely adriana well that is all we
have for you
for this edition of mornings on the hill
i’m michael cortez and i’m adriana rozas
rivera stick around
a new 30 minutes of mornings on the hill
will begin shortly
you
