LIVERPOOL, N.Y. (NCC News) – National Library Week is celebrated nationwide, but one Central New York library is taking its festivities to the next level. The Liverpool Public Library hosted a local jazz group, “The Jazz Junction,” Sunday afternoon, marking the start of the celebratory week.

Maggie Foster, Community Engagement & Adult Programming Coordinator for the LPL, joined the library in 2018 and arranges all library events. She is in charge of the activities for the celebratory week running from April 3 to 9.

“Liverpool loves music. And if it’s free music, it’s even better,” Foster said.

This Saturday, the library is having a party to round out the week. The event will be held in the Carman Community Room and starts at 1 p.m. Saturday afternoon. The first 40 guests to sign up should be prepared to dress like their favorite book character.

“We like to encourage people to wear the different fandom costumes and things like that. We’ll have little puzzles around the library, that kind of thing,” said Library Assistant Daniel Perez.

The library also has events for kids and young adults this week. Teen Anime Night is this Wednesday and shows will be played on the library’s projector screen. On Thursday, the library welcomes children ages 5 to 10 to participate in hands-on activities.

“The events work out really well. Then people don’t forget about the library, which is even better! Being in connection with your library is theme. It’s the perfect way to connect,” Foster said.
