AMANDA ALBERT: Good evening. I’m Amanda Albert with N-C-C News. Today is Wednesday, November 18th. Here are today’s top stories.
Oswego City School District moved completely online beginning today. Remote learning in the district is expected to last until at least November 29. The superintendent said this date could be extended if the number of COVID-19 cases continues to rise.
The superintendent of the Jordan-Elbridge School District, James Froio, created a Coronavirus hotline to communicate information to parents and other community members. The hotline is a response to the business of the county health department; they are backed up with contact tracing and have not had the time to answer questions about quarantines and test sites. Froio said he wanted people in the county to have quick access to discuss anything COVID related.
The anticipated second wave of Coronavirus is coming; this means that supermarkets are preparing for a “second wave” of cleaning supply shortages. Tops supermarket in Syracuse is limiting the amount of toilet paper, paper towels, and hand soap that customers can purchase. Customers can buy one pack of toilet paper and one pack of paper towels at a time; they can purchase two liquid hand soaps.
New York state is allowing a nonbinary gender option on driver’s licenses. People who do not identify as male or female will be able to have their IDs marked with an “X” instead of an “M” or an “F”. This change comes after a New York City resident filed a discrimination lawsuit against the state. The DMV must modify its computer systems to make this work. The DMV deputy commissioner expects the change to begin no sooner than the fourth quarter of 2021.
