AMBER MCELRATH: Good afternoon Syracuse.Today is November 4th, 2020.I’m Amber McElrath and this is your NCC News Brief. The Presidential Election is still too close to call… This morning Democratic Candidate Joe Biden’s campaign said it will fight to make sure every ballot is counted. Biden said it’s not his place or President Donald Trump’s place to declare who won this election.
Biden said quote “that’s a decision of the American people.”
MCELRATH: This comes after Trump threatened to ask the U-S Supreme Court to get involved. He said this is fraud on our nation. Trump said quote “We want all voting to stop.”
MCELRATH: Absentee ballots are still being counted across the country. Dustin Czarny, an Onondaga County Board of Elections Commissioner, says absentee ballots will start being counted in Onondaga County on November 9th.
DUSTIN CZARNY: In New York they just have to be postmarked by election day and then they have until November 10th to get here
MCELRATH: As of yesterday afternoon, there were over 53 thousand absentee ballots received in Onondaga County.
MCELRATH: Starting today, New York is making travelers get a coronavirus test before and after they enter the state. This will replace the mandatory 14-day quarantine. Travelers must test negative 3 days before arrival and get another test three days later. The rules don’t apply to neighboring states.
MCELRATH: A lead scientist in Oxford’s Covid-19 vaccine trials is optimistic that results could be ready before Christmas. Professor Andrew Pollard stressed that the data must be reviewed by regulators before the vaccine can be distributed. He says he doesn’t know the timeline for review. The Oxford Covid-19 trials began with phase one in April.
