Privately run casinos can open their doors to the public today for the first time since March 16th. The opening goes into effect for racetrack casinos as well. Del Lago in Seneca County is opening today at 2 pm.
However, sorry poker fans, you’ll have to wait to hit the tables, as they are still closed due to social distancing measures. Some slot machines will be closed to keep gamblers six feet apart as well.
Governor Andrew Cuomo expressed more concerns for college campuses amid the COVID-19 Pandemic on Tuesday, announcing new regulations would require schools to notify health officials when they reach 100 confirmed cases, which could lead to a shit towards online learning.
As of today, Syracuse University only has 4 active cases, with the number of students in quarantine trending down.
On Tuesday, the governor also warned that the upcoming flu season could lead to new challenges in fighting COVID-19 post-Labor Day .
Andrew Cuomo – “Flu season is starting, flu season is going to be a complicating factor, that means there is going to be more stress on the testing system.”
Salerno – Cuomo said six colleges in New York have experienced outbreaks so far. Cornell University and Colgate University are among those six schools.
The Syracuse Police Department and Skippy’s Ice Cream will be handing out free sweet treats to children and their families today. This is one of several events the SPD has in place to build positive relationships with the community and give back to the people of Syracuse.
The Chief of Police in Rochester has resigned following protests over the death of Daniel Prude. Mayor Lovely Warren said that new information came to light this week that led to Chief La’Ron Singletary’s decision. Singletary had recently blasted critics for destroying his character and said he would not retire.
