Good afternoon and welcome to this NCC News podcast on April 3th, I’m Jared Johnston. And I’m Anthony Bailey. Let’s get started with the weather facing Central New York. It’s currently 44 degrees and rainy. Our weatherman Dominic Chiappone will have more on the conditions in a moment. Our top story today is absentee rates in Syracuse City schools. Reporter Mike Ostrowski details why the rates are changing for the better…
Michael Today I’m reporting on the latest absentee rates at elementary and middle schools here in Onondaga County. I’m hoping to speak with Syracuse University’s school of education as well as someone from the Syracuse City School District on why their historically absentee rates are starting to improve in the last year. I’ll have my first report on that coming up on our 4 o’clock newscast followed by a larger package at 4:45.
Thanks Mike, as Syracuse prepares for the solar eclipse next week. Jacob Goldberg reports from the path of totality.
Thanks guys, here in Watertown, the city is getting ready for the eclipse on Monday. The population of the city is only 25,000 but they’re expected to have over 125,000 people in attendance for their events. I’ll be covering it for the four and 4:45 newscasts. But now for Dom Chiappone with weather.
Definitely expecting a more rainy stretch in the next few days. Temperatures are currently in the mid to high 40s and will drop later in the evening to the 30s but constantly we’re going to have rain for the next three to four days including tonight where we pretty much have 100% chance during the afternoon and of course during this evening. We will have more weather in our 4 and 4:45 newscasts.
Looking across the state, our producer Caroline Plante tells us about potential changes to the New York City marathon.
The MTA is asking the New York City Marathon to pay $750,000 every year for total revenue lost from the Verrazano-Narrows bridge. More on our NCC news Broadcast at 4pm.
Our reporter Gus Kirkpatrick has a look ahead at New York sports for our 4 o’clock and 4:45 newscasts.
Thanks, for sports today I’m Gus Kirkpatrick. We’ll be going over the Yankees first loss of the season to the D-Backs last night, 7-0. Syracuse Men’s Lacrosse lost in a double overtime thriller to Cornell while Syracuse Women’s Lacrosse picked up their seventh straight. The Rangers have a big game against the Devils tonight and the Mets look to notch their first win against the Tigers.
This has been our NCC news podcast for this afternoon. Make sure to stay tuned to NCC news online for all the latest stories affecting Central New York. I’m Anthony Bailey and I’m Jared Johnston. Have a great day.
