YALE KOLIN: Welcome to today’s NCC News Podcast. I’m your host, I’m Yale Kolin, and today is Wednesday, April the 12th, 2023.
KOLIN: You might be seeing a lot more electric cars on the road in the near future. The Environmental Protection Agency has proposed new tailpipe rules that could bring electric cars to compose two-thirds of all car sales by the year 2032. According to the EPA, transportation accounts for 30% of all greenhouse gas emissions in the United States. Our own reporter Will Hentschel will have more on what this means for Syracuse in the newscasts to come later this afternoon.
KOLIN: Syracuse athletics is losing one of its foremost sponsors. Adam Weitsman, a prominent SU athletics sponsor, says he will no longer hand out name, image and likeness deals to Syracuse University Athletics players. He will also no longer be bringing celebrities to SU games. In the past, he has brought NFL legend Tom Brady, popular late night talk show host Jimmy Fallon, Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo, and other celebrities to Syracuse University games. Weitsman says this action comes from the belief that Syracuse University Chancellor Kent Syverud does not want him involved in sponsoring Syracuse University athletics.
KOLIN: Many people here at Syracuse University have been enjoying the warm weather. And here we have our NCC news weatherman Walker Simmons to tell us more about the weather. What can you tell us, Walker?
WALKER SIMMONS: Yeah, Yale. I mean, sunny and clear skies, sunny and 75. It feels like Florida here in Syracuse….high of 77 today and…you’re not gonna believe this…high of 80 tomorrow with clear skies. Warm weather kind of carrying throughout the week, exciting stuff, maybe expecting some rain on Sunday, but overall, great day to soak up the sun.
KOLIN: Alright, thank you, Walker.
KOLIN: President Biden is currently on the Emerald Isle. Today, he commemorated the 25th anniversary of the Good Friday Agreement in Belfast, Northern Ireland. The Good Friday agreement came into place in 1998 when the United Kingdom and Ireland resolved to help stop the violence that had plagued the island of Ireland for decades. This period of violence is commonly called the Troubles. In Belfast, President Biden delivered a speech in which he spoke about the importance of defending democracy. President Biden is now in Dublin in the independent country of Ireland.
