ALAINA LOSITO: Hello and welcome to the NCC News Podcast. We’re your hosts. I’m Alaina Losito.

DANYELL MONK: And I’m Danyell Monk. Today is June 20th.

LOSITO: Here are some of our top stories we’re following today at NCC News.

MONK: 100 Black Men are attending a town hall in Syracuse to talk about gun violence.

LOSITO: And the race is on for the next mayor of Liverpool, the first contested race in 20 years. I’m here with Jeremy Striano and I heard you were at the Polish Festival. What can you tell us about that?

JEREMY STRIANO: Alaina, it was a great time. As a Polish man myself, it was fun to indulge in the food, the drink, and the music being provided. But what’s special about the Polish Festival is that they get to honor eight students with several $1,000 scholarships to help forward their academic journey. So it was great to see, even though there was, you know, a real tough time in Europe, the Polish people were out in full support showing their, showing their culture.

MARTA CHMIELEWSKI: We celebrate, but we don’t, we haven’t forgotten that Ukraine and the people in the Ukraine are going through such a horrible time. So we support them as much as we can.

LOSTIO: And today’s the last day of spring. What do we have on the forecast?

STRIANO: So looking like a high of 82. It is the last day of spring but it’s starting to feel like the first day of summer. So you want to get the, all the alfresco dining, all the outdoor activities done today because there’s gonna be a little bit of rain later in the week, but with a high of 82. It’s looking like a great day today.

LOSITO: All right. Thank you Jeremy.

STRIANO: Thanks Alaina.

LOSITO: And joining us now is our sports anchor for today, Sydney Staples. Were you playing lacrosse this weekend or were you just reporting on it?

SYDNEY STAPLES: What’s fun is that I actually got the chance to play a little bit of lacrosse this weekend, but I can’t say I’m very good on it. Mostly I was doing a package on lacrosse sticks and how they’ve evolved over the past thousand years. Seeing how they’ve changed from wooden and leather sticks that Native Americans would play with to the mesh metal and plastic ones that you’re seeing a lot of college student athletes play with now is was really cool to learn about.

LOSITO: And Sydney, what are some of the top stories you’re gonna be talking about in sports today?

STAPLES: Well, John Wildhack is gonna be speaking today and he’s going to be recapping the 2022 and 2023 school year and also previewing what’s to come for 2023 and 2024.
