LUKE SCHWATRZ: From learning the art of axe throwing to finding long-term homes for those in need in Syracuse. Today’s NCC News podcast has you covered. Hello and welcome to the June 21st edition. I’m Luke Schwartz.

MATT KIBBY: And I’m Matt Kibby At Far Shot Syracuse community members are just one axe throw away from a new obsession according to throwing coach Evelyn Oliver.

EVELYN OLIVER: We find that a lot of people, once they start, they just kind of get bitten by the bug and they, they wanna keep throwing it.

SCHWARTZ: One hour is just $25 to try. And here to tell us about his experience throwing axes and finding this story is NCC Sports reporter Michael O’Connor.What was it like trying something new?

MICHAEL O’CONNOR: Oh man, it was so much fun. And you know, Oliver’s exactly right. That feeling that you get when you hit the target and you realize that you can do it, you get that bug, you know, and I, I can’t wait to go back and, and, and ax through again.

KIBBY: Man, now I want to try. Thank you so much, Michael.Moving on to a pressing matter one local Habitat for Humanity is facing during the summer.

SCHWARTZ: Our own NCC news reporter Jordan Pierre joins us now with the inside scoop on the matter. Jordan, what should the Syracuse community know about this local nonprofit?

JORDAN PIERRE: It is imperative that you understand that they live upon a principle of being a servant to all, which is something that I think we all need to adapt in our life. It’s find ways for us to be. Of assistance to others. It’s through our service elders that we pay for the rent, for the space that we take up here on Earth. And that’s what you need to know about Habitat for Humanity.

KIBBY:A really important message. Thank you for sharing Jordan. But that’s not all folks.

SCHWARTZ: The Syracuse Jazz Fest starts today from this afternoon to Sunday evening.The northeast largest jazz fest is back for the 37th year.

KIBBY: The best part is the entire event is free to everyone. Performances will take place at multiple locations downtown, including Clinton Square and the Syracuse University campus, featuring a gospel jazz service on Sunday.
