COLE KIRST:From the Newhouse studio to lacing up a pair of running shoes. Syracuse University Manager of Operations and Engineer goes the distance. Today’s NCC News podcast has you covered. Hello, and welcome to the June 22nd edition. I’m Cole Kirst.

SARAL KHARE: And I’m Saral Khare. During his lunch breaks at Syracuse University, Neal Coffey takes a step outside and puts one foot in front of the other, looking to bring others along, like Assistant Manager of Operations and engineering Roxane Niezbytowski.

ROXANNE NIEZBYTOWSKIi:I started working with Professor Coffey and uh, he said, well, why don’t you come out with me? Go for a run with, you know, a group of people. At the time we had this club called the Noon time runners

KIRST: Coffey has logged nearly 90,000 miles since he started running five decades ago. NCC News reporter Matt Kibby caught up with Coffey about both of his passions.

MATT KIBBY: Cole, you’re exactly right. Neal Coffey has run so many miles, but the biggest thing that he takes away is the time that he has gotten to spend with his family. He said his proudest moment is watching his daughter graduate. In his most memorable race was the one that he raced with all three of his kids.

NEIL COFFEY: My proudest moment. I’m going to tear up because it was when my daughter graduated.

TYGER MUNN: Thanks, Saral. Later today, I’ll be going into Moleys to talk about what it really means for to be a part of the Jazz festival for a local business and how it affects their foot traffic and business this coming weekend.

KHARE: Thanks Tyger. And we’re here right alongside sports reporter Sammy St. Jean. How does the NBA draft affect the New York teams?

SAMMY ST.JEAN: In all honesty, it’s kind of a useless draft as far as New York teams are concerned. You don’t see the Brooklyn Nets until the early twenties. The Knicks don’t even have a pick tonight, so it’s more of a, you get to watch it, you see the rest of the NBA landscape. The top three is where you’re gonna keep your eye on Scoot. You got Brandon Miller, but of course it’s Victor Wembanyama, and everyone’s gonna be looking at. So keep your eyes at the top three of that draft.

I’m here alongside sports reporter Emily Shiroff to talk more about the off season moves made by Syracuse Men’s Lacrosse. Emily, what key additions do the Orange Men’s Lacrosse roster add on into the fall period for Coach Gait?

EMILY SHIROFF: Gait has been busy in the transfer portal. This off season, they’ve added a bunch of transfers addressing some really key needs. I think most notably would be the faceoff position. They added one of the top faceoff specialists in the country. He’s a D3 transfer from Tufts. I’ll have more on that a bit later.
