Michael Villegas Hello and welcome to NCC News podcast. We’re your hosts. I’m Michael Villegas.
Gabe Carr-Johnson And I’m Gabe Carr Johnson. Today is June 27th.
Villegas We’re doing things a little differently today. We’ll be focusing on sports and entertainment. Let’s start with some sports. And the uncertainty of West Virginia basketball program in players.
Carr-Johnson The big question mark on everyone’s mind is what will former Syracuse and recent transfer Jesse Edwards do? Will he stay at West Virginia after resignation of former head coach Bob Huggins, or will he decide to leave and maybe come back to the Salt City? Hall of Fame beat reporter Mike Waters for syracuse.com covers basketball and has to say this about the possibility of Edwards making a return to the orange.
Mike Waters I mean, even if he wanted to enter the portal, Syracuse might not be the destination for him. I mean, first of all, Syracuse has a full roster. They, they don’t have any scholarships available. You know, so how do they work around that? You know, do they either pull someone’s scholarship, which would have terrible PR move, or do you work it out maybe where? Is there somebody where Jesse would come here and not be on scholarship? Um, he would also still be giving up a lot of NIL money, and that was the major reason he left.
Villegas Joining us now is Alaina Losito. Alaina, you spoke with Mike Waters. What are your thoughts on the chances of Jesse Edwards coming back to Syracuse?
Alaina Losito Well, waters said that it’s not really. Likely that he’s going to return. Mostly because West Virginia doesn’t match the N I L package that Syracuse does have. So he’d be getting a lot more, which is the reason he left in the first place. It would also take away a lot of the opportunities that Syracuse gives to their other players that have just come.
So it kind of be a bad PR move for him to return and leave the other players in the dust, essentially. So I think those combined would most likely. Leads to him not having a return to Syracuse. That doesn’t mean he’s not going to transfer to another school because that could be possibility too. But as of now, Mike Waters says that it’s not really possibility at the moment.
Villegas Thanks, Alaina. Now turning into entertainment, we have Andrew Macbeth joining us. Andrew, you’re previewing a highly anticipated movie coming out by a well-known director. What can you tell us? Yeah, so this, uh, this movie coming out in July 21st is Oppenheimer, directed by Christopher Nolan. So Oppenheimer is gonna be about Jay Robert Oppenheimer, one of the lead physicists on the development of the atomic bomb in World War ii.
Andrew Macbeth It is, uh, going to be a start. It has a star studded cast with, you know, Robert Downey Jr. Emily Blunt, Matt Damon, Gary Oldman, and so many more. It’s a very highly anticipated movie. It’s just around three hours of runtime, so it’s gonna be Nolan’s longest movie to date. It’s his first one since Tenet in 2020. And, he tends to, really hit on these movies. So I’m really excited to see it.
Villegas Thank you, Andrew. That’s all for now, for additional information on the stories and more.
