And I’m Karl Winter, bringing you the latest from NCC News today, Monday, June 5th.

Here are just a few of today’s stories we’ll be covering.

Today’s top stories include the city’s newest plans to honor Brexialee Torres Ortiz, the beginning of a new trash pickup system in Syracuse, and new details on the death of Manlius’ beloved swan Faye.

As we recap the latest from this weekend, our Sammy St. Jean was on the scene at Taste of Syracuse. To learn more about the event’s impact on the Syracuse economy, Visit Syracuse CEO Danny Liedka provided some eye-opening data.

Well, it really benefits the local tourism economy. I, I, I think people that are from here don’t realize how big tourism is in this county. It’s about a 900 million industry. It’s one in 10 jobs, so these really fuel the furnace to keep that going and the economic impact is really astronomical.

Sammy will join us later in the show for a preview on today’s weather forecast.

But first, our NCC Sports Reporter Michael Emami joins us with the latest in CNY sports. Michael?

Thank you, Michael. Syracuse and Rochester battling, the Wings, it was an interesting one as the Mets are trying to get off the schneid here, losing a bunch of games …later on …Red Wings. Hopefully they can turn things around. I’ll have more for you on that. And over in the NBA playoffs, Himmy Butler and the Heat battling the Denver Nuggets and Jokić in what was an incredible game last night. I’ll have more on that for you and I’ll be covering all that and more. Plus a special look at pickleball in Central New York. Here’s a sneak peek at that story coming up later today from one of the players.

It’s a good fitness to come here and keep playing and be kind to other people that are not as strong players as others. That’s one thing that we try to be, except Norm. Did I say that?

Sounds like some friendly competition, Michael. Thank you. And while playoff series are heating up, temperatures across Central New York are trending in the opposite direction.

Our Sammy St. Jean joins us this time with a preview on today’s forecast. Sammy?

Yeah, we’re looking at around 70 degrees right now, peaking at around 75 this afternoon, low of 56. As we enter tonight, around 30% chance of rain. I know many are welcoming that potential opportunity for rain, but as we stay today, be wary of the air quality alert that’s out for today. It’s in effect until midnight, so any running or anything along those lines, maybe hold off until tomorrow.

And what can we expect for the rest of the week?

So similar temperatures, I mean, you’re gonna see some low 70s into the 60s, but as we approach the week, weekend, we might see something near 80 on the Saturday and Sunday.The chance of rain does disappear as we enter the weekend, so we gotta have our fingers crossed for the showers during the middle of the week.
