SARAL KHARE: Hello, and welcome to the NCC News podcast. We’re your hosts. I’m Saral Khare.

POLINA SHEMANOVA: And I’m Polina Shemanova. Today’s June 7th.

KHARE: Here are some of the stories we’re following today at NCC News.

SHEMANOVA: Today’s top story includes the hazardous air quality in Syracuse.

KHARE: Our Emily Shiroff joins us to give us a preview on the weather forecast today.

EMILY SHIROFF: If you’re in central New York, you can see and smell the smoke from those Canadian wildfires. As of this afternoon, the air quality in Syracuse was at a hazardous level, meaning that everyone should try to stay indoors. There is a slight chance of a shower this afternoon, and if it does rain, the water droplets would absorb some of those smoke particles, taking them out of the air and making it a bit easier for Central New Yorkers to breathe.

KHARE: Thanks, Emily.

SHEMANOVA: Meteorologists are saying they’ve never seen the air quality in Syracuse be that hazardous, and this is just what everyone’s been talking about.

KATE THORNTON: This is something I think a lot of people are going to remember for a long time because this really hasn’t happened around here, at least not in decades. So it’s certainly gonna be quite memorable down the road.

KHARE: With summer rolling around, it’s important to be aware of bees.

BILL KAUFFMAN: The first week of June is always prime swarm season, so bees show up everywhere. Of course, people are getting outside in a nice weather, so they’re noticing the bees.

KHARE: Shifting over to sports. We’re joined by Maddie Mustion.

SHEMANOVA: Maddie, what’s going on in sports today?

MADDIE MUSTION: In sports, the air quality in Central New York has canceled multiple events such as the Syracuse Mets Education Day and the boys lacrosse semi-finals. See what their officials had to say.
