New Bagel Shop To Open on Marshall Street Has Potential to Increase Business in Area Schoolyard Bagels

Can Schoolyard Bagels replace Starbucks impact?

SYRACUSE, N.Y(NCC News)

It was heartbreaking and tough when the 177 Marshall St location of Starbucks was closed after over 20 years of business.

But in its place over a year later, Schoolyard Bagels, which is set to open soon after originally being scheduled to open in November, is hoping to bring the same revenue and success that made the Starbucks location popular.

Right next to Schoolyard Bagels is the local shoe store J-Michael, and assistant manager Collin Smith is ecstatic about an authentic NY style bagel shop opening right next door.

“There’s definitely nothing in Syracuse that can relatively relate to an authentic NY bagel, and I cannot wait until they open, you’ll definitely see me in there,” he said

Smaller businesses on Marshall Street, like J-Michael have experienced hits in terms of revenue and popularity ever since Starbucks closed. But Smith hopes that when Schoolyard opens up, business will be back on the upward trajectory.

“Very hopeful that Schoolyard bagels is going to create the same vibe and excitement that Starbucks did for so many years”

Schoolyard Bagels originally had an opening set for last month but is most likely going to open as the new year begins.
